We were visiting Milwaukee for a long weekend during a winter storm. We were able to walk over from our hotel and felt like we almost had the place to ourselves! Awesome exhibits and activities. Spent several hours here with a 10- and 13-year-old. We...More

I love coming here. Nearly once a week I bring my 1 and 2 year old here. There is so much for them to look at and things to learn too. We can bring our own lunch or order food from the cafe too.

We went on New Years Day which was a fantastic day to visit. Once we figured out where to park and find the door, it was easy to find your way around. I needed more time to spend here! We didn’t even do a movie...More

Staying with family and looking for something to do in Milwaukee with an 8 year old. This place was fantastic! We allowed only a half day but we could have easily spent the whole day there. Too much to mention but we loved the live...More

This place never ceases to amaze me. I have been here multiple times and the most recent visit was today for the 'Frogs!' exhibit. They do an excellent job with presenting new exhibits and keeping people coming back to explore. Experiencing the old streets of...More

Great place to try different foods in a unique location. Busy with locals and out of town visitors. Now more wine bars to relax and enjoy the lively environment.

Kids love this museum. The dinosaur when you turn the corner is scary (not too scary, fun scary) and the butterfly garden is wonderful.

Loved the butterfly room! The streets of old Milwaukee was great too. Love the old school dioramas of native Americans, wild life and dinosaurs. Keeps many ages entertained for hours.

There are benches in the exhibit area where yo can take a break but I don't think you can have food. You will have to come down and have your food at cafe/lunch area.

All the answers make sense to me, really. I could spend a couple hours, or a whole day, depending on other commitments. Plus, because I live in the area I can always go back!

Milwaukee Public Museum (8 Replies)
Many years ago I visited Milwaukee for the only time, and my best memory is of visiting a wonderful museum with street scenes of cities around the world. One was the Streets of Old Milwaukee, and others were colorful scenes from India and I think Mexico and others. After some searching I have discovered that it was the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Streets of Old Milwaukee are still featured. Are the other street scenes still there as well? What cities or countries are represented? My...More

Thanks! I’m eager to visit this great museum again. Now that I think of it, the scene from India that I remember wasn’t a street scene that you walk through. I wonder if it is still there. Anyway there will be lots to see, and the new additions sound wonderful.

Suggestions? (16 Replies)
My husband and I can take a 7 day vacation to the Milwaukee area between July 19 and 31. First question, is there a time that would be better because of special events? I've read a little about the German Fest, is that a "must do"? Next, we will probably drive to Milwaukee because we also hope to get away from it! I figure there must be some pretty areas around the lake to go stay. Any suggestions? And in Milwaukee we have a list of things to do- Art museum, the Domes, a food tour, a...More

I have still not found an online calendar of summer events, but I did save a page from the newspaper and found this. Besides German Fest the Waukesha County Fair is going July 21st - 25th. Waukesha is the county just west of Milwaukee. The fairgrounds are about 20 miles from downtown Milwaukee. Gallery Night is July 23rd and 24th. Art galleries, mostly downtown are open for special events. The Broadway play Wicked will be at the Marcus Center during the entire time of your planned...More

Milwaukee in the summer with kids... (9 Replies)
Planning ahead here, but next summer we plan to spend 3 days in Milwaukee with our kids who will be ages 10, 7 and 3. We will be hitting Little Americkka (sp?) park in Marshall on the way there, but that shouldn't interfere with our 3 days spent in and around Milwaukee. I have the Zoo, the children's museum and the Milwaukee Public Museum on our "must do" list. How about Discovery World? Bradford Beach? We tend to enjoy kid friendly museums (the art museum, eh... we'll probably check out the...More

The children's museum will be great for the 3 year old but not so much for the 7 and 10 year olds. It caters to toddlers and young kids up to about age 5 & 6. I highly recommend Discovery World for all three kids. Also go inside the Art Museum, you can get inside and look around. The architecture is nice to see. You don't have to pay unless you are going further into see the art. Bradford Beach is one of our nicer beaches. The water in Lake Michigan tends to be pretty cold, especially...More
