About
Plants make people happy, and with thousands of wild and wonderful plants growing and blooming inside our tropical, desert and floral domes, it's no surprise that our living museum is one of Milwaukee's most loved destinations. Discover cacti, succulents, shrubs and desert palms in the Desert Dome. Enjoy five seasonal shows each year in the Floral Dome and walk among 1,200 species of rainforest plants in the Tropical Dome. The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, better known as The Milwaukee Domes, is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves plants. Visit us year-round, from Wed-Sun.

Place looked great online but when we arrived we found out one of the domes was not open. It didn't say that on the website and they shouldn't charge full price when 33% of the place is closed. The domes were ok, it was cool to see and read about plants we'd never seen before but overall the place looked "tired". The staff was not at all engaging. When my son and I were standing in the lobby afterwards the young lady who worked the admissions "booth" didn't even say a word. Would it be too hard to say, "how did you enjoy your visit?" If I were you, call before you go to make sure all is open. Not a terrible way to spend an hour or so but not something to go out of your way to do.

Such a beautiful retreat in the city with so many plants in one place. Each of the domes were large enough that I didn't feel cramped, and you can slowly wind in and around all the trees and plants. There were so many that had such fun names like Cowboy Whiskers and Chocolate Pudding Tree - we played a game to pick our favorite and most strange named plant.

There are 3 domes, but I went just this past week as they set up for the holiday show dome, so 1 dome was closed for that. I wonder if during those times when 1 of the 3 domes are closed, do they offer a small discount on admission.

Overall, in the 2 domes, we spent about 1.5 hours inside. Masks were required the entire time, which was great. The staff was all very friendly and would definitely recommend a visit here for locals or out of towners.

No matter how many times I visit, I love the Domes more and more. The Desert dome has the most incredible collection of succulents and cactus, and the Rainforest dome is a tropical jungle I could spend hours in. The Show dome rotates with different displays, always unique and stunning. It's only $8 per adult entry, and has free parking.

As a former Milwaukee resident I had high expectations of this place. They had a mask requirement in place on a day when the facility was nearly empty of people the high humidity made it uncomfortable to breathe with the mask on. Arrows directed you only in one approved route. Meanwhile a few miles to the west the Wisconsin state fair was admitting thousands of people with no mask required as did the Brewers ball park.
The show dome had nothing specific on exhibit. Nothing to justify the term "show dome". The place is over 50 years old and is showing its age. It needs an update. What you see isn't worth the price of admission.

We love to visit the Domes and enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers. The place is well-maintained and has a relaxing atmosphere. The Show Dome Holiday display was festive and gorgeous. The desert dome and tropical dome are spectacular.

For the most part, everyone is nice and respectful. There are signs warning parents to watch their kids. Unfortunately today, some parents need to be watched more than their kids. We saw a mother ripped flowers off a flowering tree to give to her daughter. Then she ripped another bunch off because her other daughter wanted them as well. Finally, she ripped another bunch off for her friend's daughter. What are people thinking when they do this? We didn't want to start a fight so we stared at them to see if they would get the hint.

If you enjoy horticulture this is your place. It is inexpensive and each dome was themed-. We spent on average about an hour going through all three domes. It is all self-guided but everything is labeled and informative so you do not feel lost as you are looking around. It is not the most exciting place but good for a leisurely day or rainy day activity. I don't think we would visit again though. I have heard they change one of the domes seasonally but that one dome would not be enough to bring me back there if I was traveling back to Milwaukee. Masks were required here no matter vaccination status.

We spent about an hour or so wandering through the domes. This is a great indoor activity so you can visit year-round.

There’s a nice park located right next to the green house which is worth walking around if you want to stretch your legs after.

This is a pretty place to go to learn about different plant life, although it was smaller than I expected. The show dome was closed when I went, so I was only there for 45 minutes (and I realllly took my time). Unless plants/gardens are your thing, you could skip this.

We had heard the winter display was amazing. We were told correctly. It was beautiful. We went at night for the light show. It was neat to see. We went in December and the pointesettas were gorgeous. The decorations were beautiful. The only downside to going for the light display is that the rest of the domes are not well lit. Although we could walk through them there was no daylight so it was hard to see and read the displays.

We will be coming back during the day to enjoy the rest of the domes. So worth the experience. I really recommend you stop here.

Another delightful train show for 2020. It’s always an adventure to visit the domes in winter when you live in Wisconsin. Warm, green, beautiful flowers and the perennial popular train show. This year’s theme of monster movies is fun and colorful.
