Welcome to a great place to learn, play and explore the rich maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum offers visitors a unique place to spend hours learning about the sailors, shipbuilders and submariners who made that history, and to have some great family fun! Founded in 1970 as the Manitowoc Submarine Memorial Association, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum has grown into one of the largest maritime museums in the Midwest. In addition to commemorating the maritime heritage of the Manitowoc-Two Rivers area and the submarines built here during World War II, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum is now a leader in preserving the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes region.

The museum is located on the waterfront, near the lake shore, just off the main street in Manitowoc. There is a Budweiser factory across the river, its impossible to miss. There is parking on both sides of the museum. The reason to go is to see the sub, The Cobia. Which was in combat in WWII, so for a sub... More

Nice and interesting show including a submarine simulation. It's worth to go there and spend a good time at the Museum.

The museum is very nice and informative. The coolest part was the submarine tour! The guide was well-spoken and answered all our questions. I would recommend seeing this!

I moved to Wisconsin a while ago and I wanted to learn more about the area...so I headed over to this museum and got a ton of information you really can't get anywhere else. It's not huge, but big enough for a good two-hour trip if you take the submarine tour (which you should.)

With a variety of fun and educational exhibits for adults and children, the Maritime Museum is a local treasure. If you are interested in the history of Wisconsin's love affair with Lake Michigan or you'd like to tour a WWII submarine (the USS Cobia) or like to explore the boats and gear used over the years in Wisconsin's fishing industry,... Took my grandsons (10 & 12) to see the sub, and they didn't want to leave, they were having so much fun looking and playing with the hands on items. Parents, you need to see this place, as I live near here, and at 64, I was having a ball going through the place.

Good history lesson. Finely preserved and conserved Submarine - The USS Cobia, a GATO class Sub. Similar to those built there in Manitowoc, WI.

This place is really cool. The Submarine is something everyone who can crawl into, should. It is tight, just as you might expect, so see it before you get to infirm. We had a group tour and they do a magnificent job explaining the workings of the boat. Interesting choices the sailors had with their water ration. Where they stowed... More

I was a little skeptical about going because either it was going to have way too much stuff and my husband was going to want to read every plaque OR my kids (ages 6 and 12) would be bored and thus whiny. NOPE! This place was fun for all of us! The exhibits were interesting and well put together and... More
