The park is quite large, with some real history. Indian Mounds and a Indian settlement to learn about. There are park rangers there sometimes and a small history museum with some very knowledgeable staff. The only thing to remember is that if you park there and leave your car without paying for park fees, you will get a ticket, so... More

Aztalan is an amazing historic site! There are hands on activities for children at the museum. For kids and families of all ages, there are beautiful, well-maintained trails for hiking among the rolling hills and near the Native American sacred burial mounds and former residential sites. The Native American and early Wisconsin state history are rich and well explained by... More

Sunday is the day to visit this fascinating archeological site and take the walking tour. Bob Birmingham (UW-Waukesha) gives an interpretive lecture and leads a lively discussion of this Mississippian and Woodland tribal town, currently under excavation for research and study. Effigy mounds abound. Much information about the stockade wall and other features of this site give clues to its... More

The mounds are pretty impressive. I would have hoped for more informative material to go with the mounds (there are some placards but they seem a bit thin to me). We went in late May. We picked up several ticks in the taller grass. I would suggest sticking to recently mowed paths, or check yourself carefully for ticks. You're going... More

Great place to go for a w2alk with the family or have a picnic. You can walk down by the river or use one of the picnic shelters. Clean park with clean bathrooms.

I did the walking tour, which was historically informative as compared to just walking around. We had a nice grilled picnic in the park area, good family get together.

Flat topped mounds, like flat top pyramids and the walking paths are the main attractions. We were able to talk with a professor who was minding the park, and learned a lot of interesting things about the Mississippian culture and the transition to woodland culture. Any student of person interested in ancient America and cultures, should visit.

We were there last week. It is such a neat historic site! I love learning more and more about the native American Indian. They amaze me in their skills. My great grandmother was Blackfoot Indian. This is beautiful and peaceful place!! But, there is a lot of walking if you want to see each one of the mounds. When you... More
