I've taken several classes from Chef John at the school and each one has been educational and fun. The dinner usually has a central theme (Morel mushrooms, Julia child recipes...) and he divides the patrons into groups of 2 or 3 who each take one of the courses and prepare them under his direction. At the end of the evening... More

Chef John was the best! We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The attention to detail was phenomenal, and the food was amazing. All team members were involved. The recipes were elegant yet approachable, and easy enough to prepare that we could do do at home with the printed recipes we were given at the end... More

My husband and I have taken several cooking classes in Chicago. We received a class at like Geneva school of cooking as a Christmas gift and boy did it it surpass every other cooking class we had ever taken. Chef John was extremely knowledgable, but most importantly, he was insanely entertaining. His passion for what he does shined through, he... More

Chef John and his staff are so fun to learn from. This was our second company outing at the Cooking School and both times couldn't have been better. The food was delicious and we actually learned a few things to do at home. Great team building event.

My wife and I attended the New Year's Eve cooking class with another couple while the kids continued our mini vacation at the Timber Lodge. Chef John has really found his niche. He is a great and personable entertainer and guided us through the cooking process in a fun yet informative way. Ingredients were well thought out and prepared and... More

I came for the farmers market and more class and holy cow was it fantastic! My favorite dish from the day was the acorn squash bisque with a wisconsin cheddar basket filled with fresh beets from the local farmers market across the street. There was a wine tasting of Riesling which complimented all of the tasting while cooking. The best... More

Don't be fooled by the name, this is not just a cooking school, it's also great place for a meal! The husband and I joined an evening class (starting at 6pm) yesterday and what a treat it was! We learned how to make tapas in the wonderful company of great people. Chef John is a great host who's not only... More

The food was very good, but what makes this five star is the sum of the experience. From getting to know each other over mimosas or n/a sparkling juice, to the fun and informative visit to the fresh farmers market across the street, to yummy recipes cooked by attendees under the close eye of the Chef, to the great cooking...
