Unique and interesting museum. My kids love it. Make sure to call ahead to ensure the museum is open.

The jail museum is housed in (no surprise) the county's former jail which also served as a home for the jailer's family. The museum provides a wonderful collection of historical memorabilia. The former jail cells include an eclectic mix of items and rooms upstairs feature, among others, Native American artifacts and items from area churches. There is a small admission fee which is well worth it, considering how much time can be spent perusing things. The museum is located next to the Court House and is hard to miss since it sits high on a hill overlooking the city. Hours may be limited since the museum is staffed by volunteers.

Cool self guided tour. The ladies running the front desk where friendly and helpful. The teens with us were amazed by some items. Worth the $3.00 adult emission.

We really enjoy visiting historical societies and learning about the history of the town and people. This one was no exception and was very interesting, especially given that it was housed in an old jail, and the cells are still there. A few show how they would have been when it was used, and others are now used as display areas for different collections. The tour is self-guided, but they give you a booklet of information that tells you about each room/area, although it's really not needed, as everything is very well marked and documented. There is plenty of parking on the city streets - just be sure to check if the museum is open when you want to visit. We were lucky to catch it on an open day (Thurs-Sunday I think from noon-4), We got there around 3:15, but made sure to see every room. Could have spent more time there though, as there was a lot to see and read about. The volunteer was very friendly and helpful - we really enjoyed talking to her. Of course I had to ask if it was "haunted" and apparently it is! They had a paranormal group come in. (So cool!). There is a charge of $3/adult for the tour, but well worth it. Be sure to read some of the history about those that escaped the jail, and why some of the others were there.

This historic jail musem is self guided with a manual. However, I recevied a personable and professional parially guided tour late in the afternoon. There a seversl three D wood carving scenes. It is the only jail that I have seen that uses metal slats versus bars for the cell. The cells are extremely small. This jail was used until 1969. Three floors of packed historical artifacts.

This small Museum houses a lot of different types of items in it from Tools, Military items, Jail cells, household good and farming tools. The building used to be the Jail with the Sheriff's living quarters attached to it.
