I would recommend going to the China Lights however I would not recommend paying extra for VIP tour. VIP tour was supposed to include VIP parking, special seating, a tour, involvement in a parade and a panda gift. The VIP parking was simply that we...More

This park has so much to offer. China Lights are of course amazing. The gardens are awesome. Every summer we walk around looking at the flowers and landscaping. We enjoy going to the nature center and walking around the pond, which takes about 1 hour....More

What an incredible display of lights, something everyone should see at least once. We were able to purchase tickets at a reduced rate on Groupon and enjoyed the lights, entertainment and refreshments. They had wine bars set up throughout and vendors with snacks and light...More

Just tried to go to the China Lights exhibit on Saturday night. We were in a line of cars for 15 min only to be directed away from the parking lot and into a nearby neighbourhood to park. Would've been a 20 min walk to...More

While only a month long show of lights it was amazing - even as the nights get colder. Amazing decorations and lighting. For anyone who has been to China and has seen their light displays, this is equally impressive, if not more so.

China Lights and Parking (4 Replies)
Hi everyone, My family and I were hoping to drive up and see the China Lights at Boerner Botanical Gardens, however I have read that the parking situation is atrocious. With it being such a long drive for us, that is a bit of a deterrent. I was hoping to take advantage of local wisdom and see if there are any hints or tips for parking, i.e. somewhere else we could park besides the main lot within reasonable walking distance? I saw they have a shuttle running Friday and Saturday, but we...More

Best thing to do is to get there when they open at 5:30. There is no problem with parking if you show up then. Problem starts when you get there later. I do believe that they have parking far away and you will have to hike it.

From Chicago to Boerner Botanical Gardens (22 Replies)
Hi, We will be in Chicago, staying in the Loop area in October and want to visit Boerner Botanical Gardens for the China Lights Festival. What is the best way to travel there and back in a day and also look around Milwaukee around the lake. Thanks

Honestly, the best way is to rent a car. You could easily do a day trip that way. Taking the train would get you downtown where you wouldn't need a car, but Boerner Botanical is southwest of Milwaukee and not very convenient if you don't have transportation.
