Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s. “Every time I was visiting with the Lunts in Genesee Depot, I was in a sort of daze of wonder; the dining room, the table, the china, the silver, the food, the extraordinary care and beauty and taste…a sort of dream, a vision.”-Katharine Hepburn

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your tour to have time in the visitors center - lots to see! I recommend the grounds + the home tour. The docents are very knowledgeable about the home and its history. Great that something like this has been preserved!

"Ten Chimneys" was the summer home of Broadway actors Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and visited by some of the most famous people in theatrical history, including Noel Coward, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. It has been kept open to the public for day tours and also serves as an educational institution for people interested and involved in theater.

My wife wanted to go to Ten Chimneys and at first I didn't want to go. I thought what would be of interest here. But we stopped on a Saturday afternoon and I have to say I found the old house very interesting. And after the tour, actually learned a lot about Lunt and Fontanne. They lived a very interesting... Go! The estate and collections are outstanding and the docents very informed, congenial, and passionate about the Lunt's home...they talk WITH you (very interactive and natural) and it's an enjoyable stroll through the house and buildings, garden etc. You really do get to see things up close. The visitor area is also worthwhile to learn about Lynn and Alfred's theatre... More

This interesting two hour estate walking tour tells the story of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, Broadway theater legends who escaped New York and lived a bucolic life during the summer months. Our knowledgeable guide provided insights into their world of farming, entertaining, performing and decorating as they created an environment " on stage" in this lovely kettle moraine property.

This is a house museum which is lovingly maintained with the help of volunteers. Call ahead to book a tour and then follow the directions to the modern visitor's center. Here one finds exhibits and films of Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, stage actors who also made one film together. There is water and cold soft drinks on offer and... More

My wife and I love Wisconsin History and had "ten chimney's" as a must see on our list! We are middle aged and were not familiar with Alfred Lunt or Lynn Fontanne, but we enjoy learning new things! We called the day before and made reservations for the full estate tour! The woman who greeted us was friendly and helpful!... More

I did the full estate tour on a Saturday with my sister. It takes about 2 hours and you go through several buildings on the property. The rooms inside are a lot smaller than I thought they would be, but beautifully decorated. The stairways are steep and narrow. There is no place to sit while taking the tour, but the... More

The guide did a very good job of making this an interesting tour but the appeal of this place and the couple who lived here is limited to a small and dying audience. We never would have come here except to bring our 80+ year old parents. They do an amazing job to promote this little bit of Wisconsin history... More

Not to be missed if you are traveling in Wisconsin May-Nov. This is the former summer home of Alfred Lunt and Joan Fantanne, famous Broadway actors. The properties are just as the couple left them - and have been lovingly maintained by a Foundation. Lots to see inside the many rooms. Main house is air-conditioned, and other buildings stay cool.
