Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s. “Every time I was visiting with the Lunts in Genesee Depot, I was in a sort of daze of wonder; the dining room, the table, the china, the silver, the food, the extraordinary care and beauty and taste…a sort of dream, a vision.”-Katharine Hepburn

I did the full estate tour on a Saturday with my sister. It takes about 2 hours and you go through several buildings on the property. The rooms inside are a lot smaller than I thought they would be, but beautifully decorated. The stairways are steep and narrow. There is no place to sit while taking the tour, but the... More

The guide did a very good job of making this an interesting tour but the appeal of this place and the couple who lived here is limited to a small and dying audience. We never would have come here except to bring our 80+ year old parents. They do an amazing job to promote this little bit of Wisconsin history... More

Not to be missed if you are traveling in Wisconsin May-Nov. This is the former summer home of Alfred Lunt and Joan Fantanne, famous Broadway actors. The properties are just as the couple left them - and have been lovingly maintained by a Foundation. Lots to see inside the many rooms. Main house is air-conditioned, and other buildings stay cool.

Just a lovely experience. From the 10 minute intro until the final ride back to the visitor center, I was enthralled with Ten Chimneys. Our docent guide was so enthusiastic and informative. I felt like we were walking in the home of royalty.

This is the home (their "farm") of Alfred Lunt (a native of Wisconsin) and Lynn Fontanne (British born), the preeminent Broadway (and international) actors of their era and a fascinating couple. Ten Chimneys is a testimony to their long-term relationship, their style (especially Lunt's -- whose creative impulses and creativity pervade all aspects of the property) and their marriage --... AMAZING tour experience! Everything from making the reservation on the phone to the gift shop at the end is just perfect and all the little details are so special. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and guests get to see so much and learn so much from the extremely knowledgable guides. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history,... More

Ten Chimneys is a very unique property with very interesting furnishings. The interior has many hand painted walls and ceilings of flowers, cherubs, and many other items. Our docents were very good with all the history and stories of the Lunts and their guests. They are some stories of famous people staying at the house. This was one of my... More

This was a great visit. The house was beautiful and cozy at the same time. The docent was great and full of information about all the various visitors of Ten Chimneys. Lots of Broadway gossip.

For anyone interested in theatre lore or interior design, a tour of 10 Chimneys is fascinating. Every detail is preserved exactly as it was when Lunt & Fontanne entertained their close friends including Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward, and Helen Hayes. The docent pointed out interesting details and shared stories about how the property evolved over he decades and about the... More
