Ten Chimneys is the estate lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. With no ropes and nothing under glass, guests are treated to a VIP guided tour of a National Historic Landmark replete with original furnishings and overflowing with the romance of the 1930s and ’40s. “Every time I was visiting with the Lunts in Genesee Depot, I was in a sort of daze of wonder; the dining room, the table, the china, the silver, the food, the extraordinary care and beauty and taste…a sort of dream, a vision.”-Katharine Hepburn

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable anniversary by going to Ten Chimneys near Waukesha, Wisconsin, and taking this tour, both inside and outside tours! This was a step back in time, with knowledgeable tour guides who answered our every question. If you have an interest in theater, this tour would be extra special, I believe. You will hear about... We stopped in and did a tour whilst driving from Madison to Milwaukee. We had no idea who Alfred and Lynn were. Our tour guides we good at explaining it. House was quirky and ground were pretty. I think this place would be great if you were a fan. It was a bit much and lenghty for me but I... More

We toured Ten Chimneys while staying at a nearby bed and breakfast. I've been aware of the house for many years, and finally used proximity as an excuse to spend a few hours there. Reservations are recommended, but we were able to call ahead and get on a tour leaving within 20 minutes. We opted for the house and grounds... More

Did the tour this past Saturday morning with 4 friends. We had made reservations for the 10 AM tour about a month ahead of time. We did the full tour - turned out us three couples were the only people in the tour. The Docent, George, along with a Shadow Docent, Pat, were very delightful and informative. You can tell... More

This beautifully restored home is a delightful glimpse into the lives of actors Lunt and Fontane. Each summer they would leave their theater tour and spend 3 months at this lovely oasis. The restoration is excellent and the museum center on the grounds full of wonderful pictures, videos and movies of this illustrious couple and their friends. The tour guide... More

Took the estate tour which was interesting and enjoyable! The guide was knowledgeable and thorough. I didn't know of Alred Lunt and Lynn Fontane but they have a beautiful estate! It was neat to be able to walk in the rooms without ropes.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour! Give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your tour to have time in the visitors center - lots to see! I recommend the grounds + the home tour. The docents are very knowledgeable about the home and its history. Great that something like this has been preserved!

"Ten Chimneys" was the summer home of Broadway actors Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and visited by some of the most famous people in theatrical history, including Noel Coward, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. It has been kept open to the public for day tours and also serves as an educational institution for people interested and involved in theater.

My wife wanted to go to Ten Chimneys and at first I didn't want to go. I thought what would be of interest here. But we stopped on a Saturday afternoon and I have to say I found the old house very interesting. And after the tour, actually learned a lot about Lunt and Fontanne. They lived a very interesting...
