Surprising little gem !

First appearances are deceiving. The site us in the process of being rebuilt following an unexpected move from elsewhere, so is a 'work in process'. But don't allow the slightly dishevelled appearance deceive. This is a place full of unusual animals for such an establishment..and 90% are rescued animals...from a huge porcupine kept in a flat, to the 3-legged fox nursed back to health having lost a leg in a car accident. In addition there are so many animals: From small breed cows,to alpacas, meerkats, racoons, dozens of birds including lots of birds of prey. There's Koi carp to huge snakes, goslings and chickens to tarantulas, reindeer, small breed ponie; plus sheep, goats, ducks, pigs, racoons, parrots, donkeys, rabbits, lots reptiles & more. All staff are unpaid/volunteers who are passionate about the animals & the success of this care shows as so many animals are breeding..especially the barn owls! lol. Enthusiastic & courteous they're knowledgeable and happy to help. The ground is a little uneven but wheelchairs can generally get around. Toilets are basic but clean & there's various provision for handwashing
It's so cheap to go in & is open daily 10 - 4pm. Perfect for young children and oldies like me alike.
There's a picnic area, or you can buy a meal at the totally seperately run (& TripAdvisor listed ) Wyevale centre next door.
It's a fab experience don't miss it. And support is always welcomed; especially since some low-life's stole and killed their many ducks...so sad...
A lovely jaunt out to a peaceful part of our local countryside 😊😀. Go for it 👍😊

Found ourselves 3 miles from here this morning so nipped over for a noise. Fantastic little place, with enthusiastic staff. Parrots, Raccoons, a Genet, a porcupine,a skunk, goats, sheep, donkies and a load of raptors to name but a few. It has real charm, yes it is small but you get a great buzz being up close to the animals. Will be back.

Owl Centre fine don't go to the restaurant
Mar 2017 • Couples
An hour of my life wasted, I have tried to post for the restaurant but can't but if you do visit the Owl Centre make sure you don't go into the restaurant

Popped in to Gardenlands and decided to stay for coffee and a sandwich. We queued for 20 minutes to give our order and then at the table we waited for nearly 45 minutes. We tried to be patient as it was extremely busy. The last straw came when a family who had arrived after us were served before us. My sister spoke to a member of staff who mumbled something about fresh sandwiches before walking off. My sister asked to speak to the manager but was told that he/she was too busy. She explained the problem and they said they would sort it but time was pressing and eventually we decided on a refund just as three tired looking sandwiches were brought into view. It was explained that they had run out of egg mayonnaise and were having to make fresh, we suggested it might have been a good idea to have told us and give us the option of choosing something that was available. We did have apologies and a full refund which was appreciated but we shall not be going back for any reason again.

Very happy 3 year old
Sep 2016 • Family
This is a great place to pass a few hours with young children. The staff are very welcoming and friendly! There is a very happy and healthy fox and raccoons as you enter - my little girl particularly enjoyed feeding the baby goats and free roaming ducks! The owner was particularly friendly and knowledgeable and even took the children into the meerkat enclosure to have photos taken. There are parrots there that can say lots of phrases and laugh (very entertaining). There are lots of different owls and Hawks to look at aswel as other animals - very fun day out and highly recommend

Wonderful experience
Aug 2016 • Family
My mom and l visited here today and had such a lovely time. We weren't expecting to see so many different animals and it was good to see them in such a roomy, natural environment. The meerkats were so cute but then again so were the ducks, rabbits, raccoons, geese, sheep, hens, cockerills, parrots, owls, falcon, budgies etc! The staff are very friendly and helpful and we got to see a bird display which was a bonus. It was so nice to see children have the opportunity to meet animals in such a friendly environment and get to feed them. The entrance fee is very reasonable and l understand they are adding new animals soon. I would highly recommend, it is well worth a visit, especially for small children.

Amazing progress
Jul 2016 • Family
Have made a number of visits to the centre over the last 8 months. There has been amazing progress , New enclosures and new attractions. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The volunteers are amazing and so approachable. Ask a question and you will receive the answer There is even a children's Club on a Saturday. Look forward to seeing the end result, when all the plans have been completed. Well worth a visit forces a couple of hours. Go look yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Great Afternoon with Grandchildren
Jun 2016 • Family
The centre is a work in progress at the moment but where else would you see so many owls and birds of prey so close up. Add to that a number of small mammals and reptiles seemingly contented.

The hilarious parrot is worth a visit. There is also a three legged fox which seems happy and enjoying being there.

Work is being carried by a number of volunteers and this will be a wonderful attraction shortly. Still worth a visit even now.

We all enjoyed it.

Shabby pens, stressed birds and overcrowded animals.
May 2016 • Family
I can see why there are signs up saying you can't take photos! I realise there is work going on, but the whole place looks dilapidated and dirty, with building materials and hose pipes causing trip hazards.
Very few signs, and those few there were had the wrong bird name on the flights in a number of cases. Some of the birds seemed very stressed- plucking feathers and pulling on their straps.
The small mammal room (in a grotty shipping container) was grubby and overcrowded, and the goat pen was a seething mass of animals crammed in to a very small area.
The adult raccoon was pacing in its cage on the concrete floor.
My daughter was frightened by the dog, which presumably belong to one of the volunteers, that kept running up to us- it wasn't threatening to an adult but any loose dog is intimidating to a 2 year old.
There was nowhere to wash hands on the way out after contact with the animals.
The only positive was the friendly lady who welcomed us at the entrance and took the money.
I hope it is either rapidly improved or closes, and the birds and animals rehoused somewhere more suitable.
