with friends, recently visited to this Park..Park situated in Bengo Province, which is around 40minutes from Luanda Sea Port (Novo Marginal)...then from the Park entrance need roughly another 30 minutes to the Safari center...Park charge Kz 2,000/- per vehicle and Kz 4,000/- per person as entrance fees. Safari costs kz 4,000/- per person.
safari duration is roughly 2 hours..the vehicle used (TATA truck) was not very comfortable, in fact they put 4 people in a 3 people seating bench...
the weather was excellent on the day we chosen.. lot of Animals, some of the Animals seen are Monkey, Elephant, Zebra, Giraffe, Kudu, Bushbuck, Grey Duiker, Dik Dik, wild buffalo etc...
Juice and biscuits are provided during the safari...
one side of the Park is surrounded by the Rio Kwanzaa valley.. boating is also available at Kz 4,000/- per person..
Rooms are available for rent and restaurant is also available. Tariff seems to be very expensive...Bath room/Toilets are available..
Park itself was very beautiful..Very fantastic experience..those who lives in Luanda should must visit this place...

Not too many animals, but we did see a family of elephants and some giraffes — still worth the visit if you're in Luanda!

This park offers an easy getaway from Luanda for a day trip, but fails short of the big parks in nearby countries. The war history of Angola has taken its toll of this park, but they've done a great job to rebuild this park. The animals are not everywhere, rather it takes some time to find groups but it is great when it happens. During a few hours drive, we saw many groups of animals but also pretty long drives without much action. The park facilities and restaurant seemed quiet or closed during our visit. This probably is the Angola can offer on this area and hope they will be successful in rebuilding this park.

The best animal park in Angola. Be sure to arrive early. The guides are all ways trying to find the animals, and the natural beauty of the park is unique. Been to many safaris but never saw a greener park than this. Love it.

It is about an hour or so outside of Luanda depending on traffic.
The safari tour in the truck was very nice. We saw plenty of animals even though it was mid day. Giraffes, elephant, plenty of Gnu's and several other species.
The boat tour on the other hand was a waste of money and uneventful. it was a 5 minute ride up the river and turn around and come back for the same price as 2 hrs on the safari truck.
They do have accommodations for overnight stays that look very nice but we did not have the chance to overnight.
I would recommend a visit and bring a translator if you do not speak Portuguese.

We visited Kissama National Park in December 2015 and even short, this trip was a nice breather from chaotic life of Luanda. You should´t expect to see too many animals, but still, the park still gives you a a glance of that African wildlife you want to experience

See my review of the park and lodge on the Kissama post. In a nutshell: do not miss a safari in the park when you live in Luanda, but I guess it is not too impressive for travellers who have already been to Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana etc. There is a lodge also in the park, very expensive and very poor, that can be avoided, no interest. But the park itself is very nice, so is the Kwanza valley.

First the park: rating 4. Kissama is a natural reserve very close to Luanda, and really deserves to be visited. It was an excellent day out for our family. Many baobabs, a boit of adventure (30km of sand track, everybody wanted to drive!). Many wild animals can be seen in the park, such as gnous, various species of antelopes, birds, elephants, girafes (plenty!). Not sure there are any big cats, we haven't seen any. The "lodge" proposes daily safaris, but you really want to go to the early one at 6:30ich. The lodge rangers take you to the Park in 4x4 open trucks, sometimes a bit rough (watch out for branches) but no comments/guiding from the rangers (in the cabin). Still, we all loved it. The lodge also propose boat tours on the mighty Kwanza, where you'll see crocodiles. The park is beautiful, and so is the Kwanza valley, really worth the trip.
Now: the lodge.... rating 1. Very expensive rudimentary chalets that can accommodate only 2 persons really (plus one kid sleeping on the floor). When we were there, there was no running water (which is the Kwanza water btw), and at some point no electricity. The restaurant is low average. Staff don't speak english, and don't really care. Except when it comes to pay, nearly 200 USD for one bungalow ! So for families I'd recommend to sleep in Cabo Ledo or Sangano, and come very early in the morning the next day, starting at 6 you finish the tour at 10ich. I have been told Kwanza Lodge also propose guided safaris from the hotel, which must probably be the best solution for a family (to be confirmed though).
All in all, park not to be missed, but you can skip the lodge and find another solution for staying overnight near the park.

There is not a lot of animals there, and the services are not that good as well. The lake view looks nice though, and the way to arrive there is also nice to drive at.

Kissama (Quicama) national park is only 70 Km away from Luanda and it's perfect for a one day trip, I booked a local company where they took me from my hotel in the morning and back the same night (other type of trips also available). The park has also a Lodge where you can spend a night or more. It is useless to compare this safari experience with other African country like Kenya or South Africa. However, if it happens to be in Angola already, then it's a perfect activity. Not all typical safari animals are in the park, we saw elephants, giraffes, zebras, one type of buffalos (not sure which one) and multiple types of gazelles.
