About
Northern Sky is a must-see Door County theater experience: original musicals presented beneath stars and towering pines in Peninsula Park Amphitheater, as well as indoors at the intimate, state-of-the-art Gould Theater. No matter the venue, Northern Sky is “as much a Door County tradition as cherry preserves…one of the most exceptional professional troupes in the country” (Chicago Tribune). Presenting shows from mid-June through the summer both outdoor at Peninsula State Park and indoor in their Gould Theater. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall with shows at the Gould Theater September through October and over the Christmas holiday.

I’m so thankful Northern Sky is back this year! We went to Tongue and Cheek and enjoyed it very much. They are carefully following COVID precautions which means limited seating. Plan ahead and as always make sure you allow plenty of time to get there. Tom Tom stops giving directions at the park entrance so add another 20 minutes to ETA.

We attended two performances , the outdoor theater (What Ever Happened to Karl Janko) and the indoor theater (Naked Radio). Not quit ready for Broadway however both shows were very entertaining. Have the right mindset, you are up north!

My wife took me on our latest door county trip. I'll admit I went reluctantly LOL but can i say what a performance. From the moment you park and walk through the woods to this clearing and the outdoor theater its so cool. The performance of Tongue n Cheek had 5 performers who were all outstanding and a one man band who played 8 instruments. Total professionals and a must see!

A must see. The theater is tucked in the woods in peninsula state park. Such a perfect setting. We saw love stings and it was excellent. The cast was superb. Great entertainment in a special place.

Going to a show at Northern Sky is an annual tradition for my husband and me. We were so glad they reopened this year. We saw Tongue in Cheek and enjoyed it - I can’t think of a play we didn’t enjoy. A special shout out to Keith, the shuttle driver. Now that my husband has some mobility issues having the shuttle makes it possible for us to keep going.

I have been attending outdoor performances for YEARS ( like over 25) at this awesome theater venue. You cannot beat it...the actors are excellent, the space is wonderful, the shows are CREATIVE...I cannot say enough about this wonderful summer destination.Oh yeah, and the prices are so very reasonable!
KUDOS to NST on your new name persona! (but the AFT-American Folklore Theater will always be burned into my mind!)

This is a gorgeous park that has everything... water, woods, trails, camping, AND... an outdoor theater! American Folklore Theater performs every night in the summer right in Peninsula State Park in a beautiful, outdoor ampitheater. Grab your blanket, trek through the pine-needle-padded path lit by romantic lighting, and cuddle up for the show of a lifetime! AFT produces original plays based on Wisconsin Folklore. We've seen them 6 times, and the talented singers and storytellers will knock your socks off. This is a don't-miss event in Peninsula State Park.

I gave a 4 star rating because we really enjoyed Lumberjacks in Love. However, I was greatly annoyed by our pre-performance experience. Having been to the theater before, I know how folks get there super early to be first in line for general seating. Not wanting to enter the stampede, we paid $7.00 per ticket extra for reserved seating. I printed my ticket and took it with us to the theater.

We encountered an older woman passing out programs and directing people to the line up if they already had their tickets. We asked if we needed to wait in that line, or if we could bypass it, since we already had reserved seating tickets. The woman rudely told us we had to stand in the line or go in last. We asked again at the will call window and were told the same thing. However, they also told us we could sit and wait in another area.

When 5:30 rolled around, we went and got in the line. What NO ONE TOLD US was that they have no way of scanning the tickets you print off the internet. Once we finally got up to the front of the line, the woman curtly told us we needed to go back to the ticket booth to exchange it for some other tickets. Really? They didn't even look at the ticket we printed. We just gave them our name and they handed over two tickets.

They also ask that folks not come more later than 10 minutes prior to the performance. If they have that kind of a rule, they should enforce it. They kept seating folks who were more than 10 or 15 minutes late right in the middle of our row. It necessitated us getting up multiple times to let people in and out and prevented us from seeing parts of the show.

Thank you for letting us know about our ticketing issue with print-at-home online tickets. We recently discovered this was happening and have since instructed our volunteer ushers to accept the printed tickets, allowing patrons like you to be seated without having to turn the ticket voucher in at the Will Call window after waiting in line. Though, I will let others know that there is a coupon on the back of our office-printed tickets that might be worth the exchange at Will Call prior to lining up in the queue. We normally ask patrons with reserved seating tickets to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to the show so that there is no long line in which to wait. Reserved tickets are for an assigned lettered and numbered spot with a cushion but are not for early seating. All patrons are allowed into the seating area after the actors have warmed up and technicians are ready which normally occurs approximately 30 minutes prior to show time. I apologize if this was not clear on the materials you received. We will review the confirmation emails and discuss this with our volunteers so that they are more understanding and less curtly with patrons. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the 20th anniversary production of "Lumberjacks in Love" with us this summer! Please let me know if you are interested in attending a show in the future and I'd be happy to assist you. Ann K. This musical was a hoot! My 13 year old was doubled over laughing, as was I !!! We went to the theatre during the day to check it out and bought tickets at the ticket booth. This saved us an $8.95 convenience fee on line. You can also buy them before the show. We got there about an hour before they let us in to stand in line. We had seats in the middle about 6 from the front. A lot of people had reserved seats but, we were sitting in front of some of them. There was not a bug in the sky- they provided mosquito spray which the entire audience bathed in..... We didn't need any. Well worth the $20 ticket price! Hilarious!!!

Saw "No Bones". Homegrown theater that is family friendly and well acted. Located in a state park, it's surrounded by beautiful landscape and water. The outdoor experience was so nice. I highly recommend renting the seat cushions as the wood benches are unforgiving.
