About
Built in 1868, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse continues its service as a navigational aid. The Door County Historical Society restored the residence and light tower and opened a museum in 1963. The Society provides tours and tells the story of the Duclon family. The lighthouse is open 7 days a week, mid-May through late October. A state park sticker is required for entrance to Peninsula State Park. The Door County Historical Society charges to small fee for tours, as they do not receive any operational support from the state.

This 1868 lighthouse that is still in operation also serves as a very nice museum to educate the public about everyday life for the lighthouse keeper and his family from 1883-1918. The personable, knowledgeable tour guide very effectively communicated the history of the building and duties of Captain Duclon, his wife Julia, and their seven sons. A Duclon relative gave the lighthouse some of the family’s original furniture and helped them decorate each room exactly as it would have been during their 35 years there. Since I am a professional pianist, it was very interesting to hear how the small original piano that is there now was taken out and in the window along with the many other instruments as the family performed often in the area. It is easy to drive a car near the lighthouse and park in the lot that has a vault toilet, which is a very smelly outhouse for emergencies. (I recommend using the real restrooms with flush toilets at the Headquarters near the park entrance or at Nicolet Beach.) The tour was definitely worth the $5 fee!

I definitely recommend the $5 self-guided tour which can be done in 15 min. You see the first and second furnished floors and can climb the short flight to the light, which you see through plexiglass. The placards and set up brought to life how the light keeper and family lived during the 1800-1900s. A knowledgeable staff member was available to answer questions. Be advised: due to staff shortages, flush toilets through out the park are closed, but there was a pit toilet at the site and throughout the park. It is necessary to pay a $10-$13 daily park pass to access the park. Also well worth it!

Eagle Bluff lighthouse is located in the Peninsula State park on the Door County peninsula. A park day pass is needed to enter the park. The lighthouse is open for visitors but they are limiting the numbers allowed inside at one time following Covid guidelines, which we appreciated. They also sanitize between every group so we felt the staff went above and beyond to keep it safe. The living quarters are furnished with historically accurate furnishings and one can climb the winding steps up the tower. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the state park after touring the lighthouse. Its a beautiful state park with miles of trails to hike or bike plus plenty of quiet spots along the lakeshore to just sit and enjoy Lake Michigan.

First, I'm a mild lighthouse junkie - so this is a place for me. The times are limited when you can see the inside, but you can visit the outside in the park basically sun rise to sun set. Situated right on the water and great for picture taking.

I arrived too late to take the tour. Looks pretty cramped inside from what I could see so probably not a good idea to take a tour during Covid especially with so many people in this area not wearing masks. The grounds are immaculate, the lighthouse appears to be in good shape and there's a nice spot to look at the lake.

Lighthouse is open 10-3:30. $5 entry fee in addition to state park pass. Only eight people allowed in lighthouse at a time. This wasn't an issue midweek in September as there were not that many people there. Most were enjoying the water view and were not interested in going inside the lighthouse. Hand sanitizer available at the door. Nice brochure available to give a more complete history of the lighthouse. Attendant gave a very brief history of the lighthouse and then you were free to walk around. Unable to walk up inside the lighthouse tower. However, you are able to go up the stairs tower to view the lantern.

Great history given by docent and good protocol steps for covid. Limited amount of people for tour, I believe 8. Masks required. The lighthouse is as it was at the time it was operating and you get a wonderful glimpse at how the family would have lived in that time period. Docent gave good personal stories of the family. The outside views are amazing, also and the lighthouse is iconic and picturesque. Worth the state park pass and admission price of $5.

Really cool structure they point out out on a Fish Creek boat tour. Easy drive to find lighthouse. Inside is worth $5 dollars. Quite a story of the family that lived there.

Wonderful historical site. Interesting tours about lighthouse life. This site is in need of refurbishment- they are building a fund. They just opened the reimagined Eagle Tower on the other side of the park. Hope this is next.
But worth the trip with great views.

if this is technically located in peninsula state park, do we have to buy a car pass to be able to see the lighthouse?

How much walking from the parking lot to the lighthouse?

The distance from the parking lot to the lighthouse is not very far, however taking the tour does require standing for an hour and you must be able to climb stairs. I hope this is not a limitation for you.
Sincerely,

Unfortunately, as a historic site, Eagle Bluff Lighthouse has limited accessibility. Currently the only room that is accessible is the winter kitchen.
