Biked from Sparta to Norwalk and back. Started at the DNR walkin campsite parking lot south of I90 in Sparta to save ourselves a couple of miles. My odometer said 23.5 miles upon return. 1.5 of that was walking through tunnel 3. Very pretty ride. Nicely maintained trail. Tunnel was interesting, if a bit long. It's a 3% grade uphill... More

Rode the Elroy-Sparta trail from Sparta to Norwalk, and from Elroy to the first tunnel. Trail was in very good shape, except for one area washed out just north of Norwalk. Very fun to walk through the Northern tunnel - make sure to take a flashlight - it gets very dark in the middle.' Great way to spend a beautiful... More

We biked the entire trail, round-trip, from Sparta to Elroy and back on the last Saturday in July. This trail is absolutely remarkable, it took us 7 hours to complete, we measure the trail at close to 70 miles round-trip, which is a bit longer than the advertised 32 mile trail. This is our 3rd round trip in the last... More

This is the fourth time I cycled this trail. Once every year for the past four years. I've cycled most of the trails in Illinois and travel from Joliet yearly. Unbelievable!!

This bike trail is soo much fun. We bought the head lamps that you can wear on your head to get through the tunnels and they worked out great. My teenage daughter and her friend went with us and had no problem biking the path from the campground we stayed at. This trail would probably be difficult for younger children.

We biked the Elroy-Sparta State Trail and loved it! It's mostly flat with a slight incline up to each tunnel (but not bad!) The trail is beautiful with lots of trees and sand cranes! But the tunnels were the best part...dark, cool, and drippy! Need headlights or bike lights! The longest tunnel was 3/4 mile long! You'll love it!

We decided to bike part of this trail, just to see the tunnels. A few thoughts as I biked that day. 1. There are long, slow climbs to each tunnel. I didn't actually measure, but the longest climb was probably 3-4 miles. Yes, very gradual, but it is climbing. On the flip side, the ride away from each of the... More

I love this trail, but just went back for the first time in 10 years and was surprised at how exhausting it was to go uphill to each tunnel. It was tougher than I remembered (or just got old and out of shape). :)

Stopped by the Sparta Elroy Trail at Tunnel #3 on way to northern wisconsin Saturday 6/18. Go north out of Norwalk on Hwy 71. You are looking for Kenya Avenue. It is like 2 - 3 miles out of town and you come down a hill and there isn't a very large sign, but there is one posted along the... More

My husband and I had a few hours at the end of a weekend camping trip, so we decided to ride the trail starting at Elroy. We bought a trail pass from the shop in Elroy and also got some information from the friendly woman working there. It was very hot (90s) the day we rode, so we only made... More
