Unbelievable wines - Try the Malbec
Fortunate to be a member of Stone's Throw wine club. Russell Turco produces two new exceptional wines each month and the wines served at both the tasting room and Vino!Vino! next door are amazing as well. Russell is the ultimate host and has a story for all of his wines. A must visit when in Door County.

    Best DC Wine Tasting Experience!
This was by far the best wine tasting experience we’ve had in Door County! Jim was top-notch in customer service, knowledgeable, and charismatic. This was the first time we really were able to learn about the different wines we were tasting, some background, and even interesting facts about the wine. Besides all of that, the quality of wine was amazing and did not even compare to the other local wineries! We loved it so much that we decided to join their wine club, and we can’t wait to come back!

Expensive but worth every penny cuz you get what you pay for!
Excellent wine! Get the antipasti. Fantastic. Worth every penny. Great atmosphere and service. Love this place for wine tasting and the tapas and drink restaurant next door. One of my favorite spots in Door.

    Another Great Stones Throw Visit
Made our 3d visit this week. Stones Throw is a must do on our annual Door County trips. Russ Turco is a serious winemaker making serious wines. Stones Throw is not for the cherry wine drinker. These wines are made from Napa (and other CA) grapes and compare with Paso Robles and Napa wines in quality and complexity. Our tasting was superbly poured and guided, and our small bites afterwards at Vino! Vino! - with another glass of our faves - included a stop from the Owner.

Lovely experience in a beautiful garden with great wine and delicious food.
We stopped here last week. It was a beautiful day, and the flowers are just beautiful. The landscaping is perfect. The girl that waited on us was very nice. I had the Angelique sparkling wine, and bought some for home, We had meatballs, and the platter for two with crostini, barrata cheese with garlic, and bruschetta. Everything was so good. We had leftovers that the waitress packed up for us to take home. I meant to get some of their wine glasses, but I forgot. Next time. This is a regular stop when we go to Door County. It is a very relaxed setting. It makes me feel calm and happy. The owner, Russell, is always making the rounds and visiting. I feel like I visited a little of Tuscany. We have traveled quite a bit, and this is a keeper.

Don’t let some reviews drive you away!
This is our favorite winery in Door County. We joined the wine club on our honeymoon in 2016, fell off during the pandemic but rejoined when we visited for our 5 year anniversary in 2021. Their Tasting Room staff is incredibly knowledgeable about how the wine is sourced and aged. We always find a new favorite every time we go. Next door at their restaurant Vino! Vino! we discovered that our 3 year old son absolutely loved the meatballs. After our first time visiting on this trip (we had to visit 4x because our son loved the meatballs so much) - Russell, the owner, greeted us like we had been friends for years. It’s so hard now to go to a business and have the owner acknowledge your patronage but every time we came back Russell greeted our toddler like he was his own grandchild (which is RARE at wineries) - I could not recommend this place more and we’re so looking forward to bringing our son for years to come.

Amazing Experience! Will be back next summer!
We had the pleasure of having Meg as our server during our recent visit to the winery. Her knowledge of wines truly enhanced our experience. (Also she speaks Spanish) . We sampled a range of wines including the Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zinfandel. It's worth noting that they are the exclusive distributors of these wines in Wisconsin. Additionally, we indulged in their tapas selection. I highly recommend the smoked duck and the bruschetta trio. Both were exquisitely prepared and paired wonderfully with our wine choices. A visit to this winery is a delightful experience for both wine enthusiasts and culinary aficionados.

Feels like a REAL vacation here!
We had a great “timeout” here, while visiting Door County. Ordered sone California wine, and enjoyed it with an order of bruschetta. This was over the top delicious. The tomatoes! Fresh and top the season! I suspect they were grown directly on the property. The property is beautiful! Flowers, vegetables, comfy seating! Really, this little stop was one of the highlights of our trip. P

    Best Winery In Door Co.
Read some interesting and equally entertaining posts relating to this winery/establishment. I have been to Stones Throw on back to back weekends in September 2023 and have had two vastly different yet enjoyable experiences. Both instances were different in their own right. The first took place with my wife and 3 month old daughter. On this occasion we went around mid day on a Friday and were served right away and had a great tasting. After the tasting, we ordered some food and an additional glass and sat outside. Having been to Napa previously, I have the basic knowledge to detect a good wine when I encounter it and this place checks all the boxes. I joined the wine club day one and found out the owner personally travels to CA several times per year to hand select his grapes for his wines. And being a dry red fan, the fact the wines we tasted weren’t of the typical Door Co. sweeter variety was quite refreshing. During our second experience, we had our 3 month old daughter and 2.5 year old toddler with and knew our limitations, instead opting to have one parent remain in the car with the littles while the other went in for a tasting. In this instance, the place was very busy and in the middle of the day on a Saturday. Patience was key for this date as the tasting room was packed and it took a little bit to get served. Though different it was still enjoyable. Additionally, since we are wine club members we got to appreciate the free tasting on this date. Would highly recommend this winery and will be back again! Presently sipping on their 2019 Chalice Grenache Noir 👌🏻

Magnificent wines (especially the Sangiovese!) and delicious tapas presented by a most attentive and informative server, Meg. My friends and I have been to Stone's Throw a number of times for the fun tasting room experience, but this time we chose the delightful bar area Vino! Vino! with it's spacious outdoor seating. I highly recommend you visit Stone's Throw Winery when next you visit Door County, Wisconsin!!

My sister and I were touring all the wineries and, unfortunately, it did disappoint. in fact, we just left both the winery and the bar without being served.
Upon arrival we walked past the Tapas Bar and noted what we interpreted as a non-friendly sign on the door stating they don’t do tastings. Confused we meandered further down the sidewalk and were more shocked by the sign attached. We understood the issue and reason behind the sign but were very put-off!! Nonetheless, we entered to check it out. Inside they were busy and there was no immediate room for a tasting. We stood around for a few minutes but decided to leave when no employee even acknowledged us. It was also the most expensive tasting we encountered so we decided to just try a glass of wine at the Tapas bar and were seated on the beautiful patio. We observed as other patrons were directed to the correct area, patio or deck, depending on which establishment you were visiting. Unbelievable how the deck was on the opposite side of the building and wine tasters were rudely instructed to pass through the patio, in the back of the building and use the deck. Perusing the menu, a single glass of wine was more than we were willing pay and we had just had lunch so we up and left there as well and doubt we will return. But hey, 6 out of 7 were friendly and more than accommodating!!

I had read nice reviews about this winery and looked forward to a tasting here. It was a bit rainy this morning, but we figured they would have a patio with some rain coverage we could sit on.

When we arrived we saw nobody outside except at the pizza restaurant a bit further (Bocce). The testing room was packed when I looked in and nobody we wearing masks, of course because people were tasting wine.

I went next door to the tapas restaurant and asked if we could take a wine tasting outside, being uncomfortable with the crowd of unmasked people inside. The lady at the bar was very unfriendly and said no, not possible and turned away.

Knowing there was a huge patio I am not sure why she had to be so rude about this, it is not safe to have so many people in one room. Needless to say we left and went to another winery.

I have to say I’m a bit surprised by the amount of negative reviews. My two girlfriends and I took a trip to the area to visit wineries and just have a great time. Many of the wineries that we went to were unfriendly to say the least. We were also surprised that the only winery in the area that offers any type of food is Stones throw. We first went to the tasting room and because I only drink moderate to sweet wines saw that I would be quite limited. We shared a tasting between the three of us which I have seen other people complain is some type of rule that you cannot do. Obviously we did not have an issue in this area . We then went over to Vino Vino with the intention of having a bottle of wine and some food. We were immediately greeted by the owner was extremely warm and welcoming. We ordered a bottle of wine to share and two plates to also share. Our wine was outstanding as well as the food. We ended up having a second bottle and maybe even a third . While we were there we also witnessed the owner get up and speak to everyone else that entered the facility and greet them. With that said, he never actually bragged, boasted or even so much as mentioned that he was the owner. He simply was a friendly patron as far as anyone knew unless you specifically asked him. We had some food left and asked if we could take it to go and our waitress happily obliged. We were treated extremely well in this facility and will definitely return on her next visit to door County. While I may not drink what money would consider “real“ wine, I have been to many, many wineries and wine tasting events. I feel that perhaps some of these negative reviews are people who are not used to a true winery/wine tasting experience and perhaps are not used to paying more than five dollars for a decent bottle of wine. 🤷‍♀️

It is a local winemaker who uses fruit from all over the US. This was fabulous wine with pretty high prices. Nevertheless, it is worth it. There is a cafe just outside the winery and a stand alone pizza place. I thought the wines were really good. Certainly worth a tasting.

This place has the best wine tasting in Door County. This is not your typical fruity wine that you’ve come to expect when visiting the area. They source their grapes from California, and have crafted some fantastic wines. Michael was fantastic, he was very knowledgeable and friendly. The only hard part was deciding what to buy

I arrived at the tasting room around 12:30. I liked the automatic hand sanitizer on the inside and outside of the door. I believe all employees were wearing masks, nice job!!! There were about 15 customers inside. None wearing masks as they were either doing a tasting, ending one or waiting for one, hard to say. But I was absolutely the only guest wearing a mask. That left me feeling very uneasy so I just took a bottle to go.

Just a few suggestions for during the pandemic .....

1. Why not post a sign asking customers to wear a mask until they are drinking or eating? This would help ensure the health of both your staff and customers. I’ve been to Stones Throw enough to know you get VERY busy. I’ve seen the place packed body to body with perhaps as much as 50 people in the building. A little sign outside the doors would do the trick.

2. I was lucky it was slow, but I’m wondering if you could place somebody by the door to count heads and only let 10 people in at a time? You have a beautiful property and they could walk around and enjoy it while waiting. You could simply text them when it’s time to enter.

3. I’m also wondering if you could do flights instead of tastings, preferably disposable glasses. That would reduce the face to face contact time and help keep your staff safer. These are just some suggestions. You have a lovely establishment, fabulous staff and amazing wine, so I think you’d want to be more proactive. It’s an certain time.

Hands down the best wine we have had in Door County. Service was friendly. Unusual set up from other wineries in that you cant purchase a bottle to have on site at the tasting room you have to go next door to the tapas restaurant.
On our visit everyone was wearing a mask who was serving, tasting stations are marked with tape & well spaced. Wine guests can't very well taste with masks on so they are not required for guests. I appreciated the more reasonable approach.

My husband and I stopped by their wine bar for a Saturday afternoon lunch. It was a delightful meal with very attentive service and excellent food. We enjoyed the meatballs and the cold smoked duck, both of which come with several thin pieces of excellent baguette, as well as three glasses of different wines between us. Prices aren’t cheap, but they are in line with Door Co. and reflective of the high quality of the food and wine.

Incidentally, we happened to be there when the wedding party of 14 dropped in (they left a nasty review below.) It’s a small place (as is the tasting room); of course they can’t accommodate that many people without notice. Don’t let that deter you from visiting.

Our second visit, but recently we brought another couple with us for a tasting. Social distancing was done perfectly. All staff wore masks and customers did too, until the wine was poured. Our friends were 6 feet apart from us, but we could talk and our "wine guide" could explain selections to both of us. I don't remember his name, but he was great. Excellent wines, very knowledgeable staff. We had a great time on a windy September day. We each bought a case.

In our opinion, Stones Throw is above and beyond the typical Door County Winery.

My daughter wanted to do a wine tasting in Door County, and thought Stone’s Throw looked the most attractive. We had a party of four, and went with the flight of five. The associate explained that you really want to drink white, red, and then dessert wines, in that order. She evaluated everyone’s thought process, so you stayed on track. While pouring each sample, she explained the attributes of that wine - very knowledgeable. We had a great experience, and left with a few bottles of wine. Forgot to mention, was indoors as well. My daughter wanted to try another wine tasting that was close by. The place we selected had the wine tasting in several non-controlled areas. You basically picked your wines, they poured them in plastic cups, and sent you on your way. While not an expert in wine tasting, seemed like a poor process. Stick with Stone’s Throw.
