In quick summary, we did a 3 day 2 night trip with a group of 6 plus a guide. We would give (we voted on ratings) 4.5 stars to our guide and 3 to Lost Creek. So average to 4 or so. Guide did a great job and was a good fit for our crew. Kept us safe and was good company. He also did a great job cooking and figuring things out on the fly with the weather we experienced. Most issues we had with him were potentially outside his control...other than the neoprene hatch covers missing during the safety recovery training. That caused one tandem to be really hard to recover so people were in the cold lake longer than they wanted. As for Lost Creek, we just felt like our guide didn't get much support at the shop. He had to choose and get boats and gear all by himself (with our help to carry but no help selecting) and secure everything for transit himself etc. That resulted in us having a faulty spray skirt and rudder the first time out that had to be replaced. It also just took longer to do everything. If he had been given more support back at home base, a lot of other little issues could have been avoided and resulted in a better experience. Most importantly, the lack of support also appeared to result in a botched food hand off and several meals were missing components (although still good food) and more importantly there was no coffee! This was listed as a critical item in all our pretrip surveys and our guide avoided open rebellion and our headaches only because we bargained our way to some very bad coffee tea bag things from another camp. Honestly, seems small, but a better cup of coffee on the beach would have made a big difference to us! We also know our second day route was a result of weather on day 1, but we probably could have paddled and seen more and wished that could have happened.

We had an excellent two day, one overnight experience with Danny in August of 2022. Although the change in weather made the launch out of Bayfield a bit questionable for some time, the guides made the most out of the circumstances, and we were able to successfully launch and partake in our kayaking experience to Sand Island. The food was plentiful and filling, and the group my friend and I were paired with was perfect. We all got along great, and everyone had an easy-going 'can-do' attitude throughout. I would definitely recommend Lost Creek Adventures to others looking to partake in an Apostle Islands guided getaway!

Pushing aside the obviously incredible experience of kayaking on Lake Superior and getting to go through the sea caves, our experience with Lost Creek adventures couldnt have been more positive I don’t think. Unfortunately our first planned tour was cancelled due to high wind and waves on the lake. Although disappointing, it was totally understandable as the waves were white capped and smashing hard. Safety obviously has to always come first. Luckily, the people at Lost Creek are so nice that they unhesitatingly rebooked us on another trip. I heard the group behind us was leaving the next morning and so unfortunately could not rebook, and they were offered a full refund. When we finally did get out, our guides Sam, Skylar and Luke were fantastic! Fun but safe and helpful. The sea caves are a MUST SEE for this area, and I would highly recommend Lost Creek for a safe, fun, and breathtaking kayaking tour.

Awful trip if it weren’t for my family that also went. Paid way too much money to never make it to the sea caves when the wave indicator showed it was well within our limits. Then when they said we will go to Bark Bay and kayak there, showing us on the map the trek, and we only take the extremely hot slough and have to stop there because THEY didn’t budget their time correctly (literally told us it’s an hour shorter than sea cave tour). (I’ve included pics of the too wavy day due to north wind that we couldn’t do the sea cave tour.) Then the boat’s pedals break, and they previously insisted on seating positions based on size and who can do pedals as a necessity, for what? The slough?! We were also sweating like crazy on that slow back water, and when I lifted my skirt to let air in and a bit of water on my leg, they yelled at me that it is protocol that we stay cooking inside of it! 🤦‍♀️ I READ ALL OF THE FORMS, and nowhere on what I signed or read did it say they’d make us keep them on.

When it is too rough to get to the caves we sometimes will offer the option to paddle at the Bark Bay natural area, a unique DNR protected estuary, and one of the few of it's kind on Lake Superior. Since it was too rough at the caves this day we offered Bark Bay as an option, or to cancel with a full refund. This group chose this option. It was a hot day.

I cannot say enough good things about Lost Creek Adventures from start to finish. I just completed a 4 day kayaking/camping trip and had an absolute blast! From the moment i got there I felt at home. Everybody was super friendly and super helpful. Being new to kayaking I was a bit nervous my trip was above my skill set but that soon faded due to the patient and super talented guide we had - Mikey! I highly recommend him if you are new to kayaking and planning to take an extended trip of the Apostle Islands. He really focused on instruction and building confidence each day while pushing you just enough to achieve a safe and personally rewarding adventure. The food was great, the campsites were spectacular. This was an epic trip!

Perfect weather, amazing views, great guide (thanks Kurt!) - whole experience was phenomenal! The company did a great job of making everyone feel welcomed and safe with the experience. Couldn't have asked for calmer waters on lake superior and just enjoy the sea caves and a light day of kayaking on the shoreline. Recommend doing the early morning tour as there are less people on the water than going midday. By the time we were finishing up there were so many more tours and people headed out to the same area!

The reason I booked this tour was to visit the sea caves and take photos. Upon checkin, I was strongly advised not to take my camera - that the guide would take photos and send them to me. There was about 90 minutes of kayaking to get to the caves and return, with about 45-60 minutes at the caves. We struggled a lot - this was not the experience we were expecting (the person on the phone when we booked it said it would be easy). At the end, we had to carry the kayaks up steps. All understandable, but much more work than enjoyment. We never heard from the guide or the company. When I contacted them, they told us that the guide tried sending pictures, but couldn't. We never even got a courtesy Email from the guide. If you like kayaking, go for it. If you have never kayeked before, my advice is to get some experience first.

Corrections: We never tell anyone to not take their camera. In this case the guide had a guest nervous about bringing her camera and so offered to take photos with her own camera and send them. The guide tried 4 times and they finally went through. Our business does not promise this service. (and neither does the guide anymore due to the experience with this person) 2-2.5 hours on the water, with possibly 1 hour to get there and back, but normally 40 minutes, then 1.5 hours at the caves, weather dependent. This is not a ride. Many have kayaked short distances in small boats with no wind. What we do is true sea kayaking with potential for waves, wind, and sore arms. Please come prepared for your trip by reading all resources and links that we make available via the website, confirmation emails, and review responses such as this one. We will never hide anything or purposefully mislead anyone. You need to research and prepare for what you are getting yourself in to. This is the best way to see the caves, but you have to earn it.

Just got back from the 5 day Outer Limits trip. It was fantastic. Mathias was our guide and he did a great job boosting confidence, being clear about our daily plan, making delicious meals, and making tough calls when weather was rough. I'm pretty athletic but had never sea kayaked before and left this trip feeling confident in my paddling abilities.

We were disappointed when our scheduled trip with LCA had to be canceled due to high winds/waves. They offered us the choice between a full refund or an alternative trip to a more sheltered location. So glad that we decided to paddle with the great guide Molly in the Lost Creek Marsh. She helped us spot beaver, swans with signets, Kingfisher, and several types of hawks and songbirds while exploring creeks, some just wider than our boat. LCA seems to be a business that puts safety first and then does everything they can to keep their customer satisfied. Highly recommended! We will certainly schedule another trip with them the next time we’re in the area

Luke, our expert guide, has been kayaking in the area his entire life. With his help, everyone in our group (mixed ages and abilities) felt confident about embarking on the big lake in kayaks. There is no better way to enjoy Lake Superior; it was quite the thrill ride. Thanks, Lost Creek and Luke!
