Be sure to allow enough time to soak up the views, the atmosphere and the waters.

It’s a tent camp, and it can get cold at winter nights, remember to ask for blanket. Good food, toilets - did not try the showers.
WiFi almost nonexistent.
Go visit the the oasis itself 10 minutes away, it is romantic as a movie from the 1930’s.

This is the main Oasis which everyone visits in the region. and it is nice. You can also stay overnight here as well as eat.

Stayed at Jamal's place, lovely hospitality, beautiful oasis, appreciated even more after a whole day of hiking around on foot and on camel at 46 C. Well worth a visit!

A beautiful place in the middle of the Mauritanian Sahara. The oasis is beautiful. We hiked in the oasis and went up the hills and made sure to watch the beautiful sunset from above.

Lovely place to relax in the desert. You can walk to the source of the oasis and bathe there. Locals are very friendly.

This little oasis was wonderful. We came on a Saturday in the afternoon which was a crowded mistake! Back Sunday morning and it was quiet, calm and relaxing. It is very nice to escape the heat which is intense! There are khaimas set up for having picnics or naps as well as the water. Climb to the top to find the cement pool.
It is just down the road from Chez Jamel's, a nice little hotel with khaimas to let.

The journey to Terjit requires a dose of adventure. The 11 kilometer track crossing the wadi to reach the oasis was once reserved for brave 4x4s, but it is now passable by light car thanks to a recent renovation. However, caution remains in order.

Watch my friend's video on his trip to Mauritania. It is VERY good and will give you a good idea of what the country is like. Go to youtube to the channel "jaysondudas" and watch his Mauritania video. I did a mix of couchsurfing, staying in auberge's and also staying with random people I met. Mauritanians are incredibly hospitable and as such it is not unusual for someone to invite you to stay in their house. When I stayed in a hostel in Chinguitti I only payed a few thousand CFA a night (cheap). Public transport is easy to use in my opinion. Just ask around where to find it. Going from Atar to Chinguitti I asked around and people directed me where to go to arrange a ride with the once daily truck that was heading out there in the morning. That said, you will have to do a bit of waiting around. From Rosso up to Nouadhibou transport is plentiful. Further out in the desert (Adrar and maybe towards Kiffa) not so much. I HIGHLY recommend you take the train from Zouerat or Choum down to Nouadhibou (or vice versa). If you ride in the actual iron ore cars it is free. Just climb on up before the train leaves and enjoy the ride. Buy a turban to protect your face from the sun and maybe a coat as it can get cold at night in the desert. Also take water cause it's the... desert. I love Mauritania. Would recommend visiting it on a trip from Morocco to Senegal or Senegal to Morocco (what I did).

Hello, soon I will go with my backpack to Mauriatania. I find very little information about traveling with the backpack in that country. So I have a lot of questions ;-) Have anyone know good tips for me? Or cheap hostels where I can sleep? Can I stay with the locals? Is public transport easy to use? Thank you for your info. Safe travel
