Very good trip through the vale and mountains.

I did tour skiing during the winter and mountain biking this June. Nature is super nice, roads and paths in very good condition, Ucia Fanes (good food, nice variety of grappa) and Ucia Lavarella are good places to eat and get some good beer (Lavarella supposed to be the highest brewery in Europe, 2050 m).

Hikes from Pederu offer everything you are looking for at the mountains, beautiful lakes on Fanes side are worth visiting and the hikes are not that crowded as many others in Dolomites even on busy days. My only reservation is the local transport. You can easily hike to Lago di Braies or to Badia in a day, but there are very limited possibilities to get back to Pederu by public transport, so usually you have to take the same way back to your car.

It take s little effort to get here, but the pay-off never ends in this little corner of the Italian Alps. The friendliest people, the best hikes, food, scenery, temperature, atmosphere....you name it, San Vigilio has it. I cannot wait to go back, as we only had time to scratch the surface of this magical part of Europe.

This place is out of this world..... just a few steps away from the „Lü“, and you are in a totally different world away from it all. Totally quiet, just a few people on snow shoes or skis who disappear within minutes, you are almost alone in this magnificent nature. No wonder elves are said to have lived here....

We walked the 7 km from the carpark up to The Fanes through the snow with wonderful views all around. After lunch at the Refugio we returned by toboggan - a memorable experience.

Pederu is the start of many hiking routes. Before you get to pederu, you have to pass a tollroad or take the bus (free of charge if you have a guestpass which you get when you stay in an accommodation in this region)

If you take your dog with you, be aware that inside the bus, they have to wear a mussle and have a charge of 3.50 eur from san vigilio to pederu. Toll for a car is 7 eur.

The hikings from pederu are very beautiful, very specific mountains and pretty steap paths but the rewards/views are totally worth it. Enough rifugio/cabins around to eat/drink.

Come prepared with good shoes and sticks where possible. The is a lot of small rocks/gravel like so you will need to have good grip under your feet.

Highly recommended area

Our third visit did not disappoint. Food superb, staff brilliant and to top it all some very lively musical entertainment.
The views are breathtaking.
