Like others have said, this trail is mostly steep, narrow rock steps. Definitely challenging, but manageable even for beginner hikers, and the views and the scenery are amazing. Some of the rocks are a bit slippery so just be careful going both up and down. The trail is narrow so it's nice to be considerate of others, there are plenty... More

Take lots of water and a snack. The "trail" is rocks that are very steep. Take your time and stop along the way to enjoy the views. Be careful you don't miss Balanced Rock, because it's easy to do. I had to turn around and go back a ways. Keep going to Devil's Doorway, awesome rock formations. The worse part... More

This trail allows you to see balanced rock and the much more interesting formation "the devil's doorway". Also you will get to see a great view of Devils Lake. This trail is probably the MOST DIFFICULT trail at Devil's Lake. There is "lots of up'. Often you are walking on steps with steep drop-offs on both sides. When these "steps... More

Very difficult trail. Lots of climbing. It is like climbing stairs. There are some very nice views along the way. Make sure you wear good shoes.

Don't let this short trail fool you...its not an easy hike. When you get to the top though its an awesome view of Devils lake and the surrounding Baraboo Bluffs.

First, I'd like to say the trail itself was a bit challenging and well worth it if your intentions are to hike and you can careless about the attraction ('balanced rock'). Don't under estimate the .04miles it claims to be. It took us 45mins to climb it (with frequent slow downs for hikers to pass through since the path is... More

My 13 year old son and I took this hike on a day off from the waterparks. It was a whole different kind of fun! Balanced Rock was just ok but the Devil's Doorway was truly a wonder.

This trail in Devil's Lake State Park is one of the nicer short hikes anywhere! Although the first part of the trail, hiking up the talus slope, is a bit challenging, the rewards upon reaching the top are more than worth the effort! Fabulous views out over the lake and the rock formations are awesome! Besides Balanced Rock, don't miss... More

I really enjoy nature trails but I'm not much of a "hiker", this trail was defiantly hard for me! But I made it to the top and it was totally worth the trip! We went on a Saturday so the trail was pretty busy. I drank my whole water bottle on the way up, so make sure you're hydrated before... More

The park newspaper will give you the various trails and the degree of ease or difficulty. Since I have been visiting for over 50 years I have been on every trail. There is a beautiful trail to the top of the bluffs for a panoramic view of the park that can be handled by most.
