Such beautiful scenery, you can rent a boat, or other water fun items. Swim, sunbath, pinic on the beach, or under the trees on a pinic table. If you are more of the hiking type there are several amazing beautiful trails with a variety of...More

Great lake for swimming, canoeing, a sunfish or splashing. Hiking trails, unique geologic features, camping, picnicing, and bird watching off the thermals. A great spot, busy, but without the frantic crowded conditions of some other parks in the Dells area of WI. It get's busy,...More

A few hours drive from Chicago there is great rock climbing. The park didn't have much for facilities, but if you have your own gear you are good to go.

We spent the afternoon hiking around the lake while visiting nearby Wisconsin Dells. Beautiful scenery and a nice getaway from the bustle of water parks and busy traffic

Devils lake is great for hiking, swimming and just hanging out. We have gone there for years. Fishing is nothing spectacular, but there are fish there and no boats so it is nice for shore and kayak fishing. Used this nice lake to teach folks...More

The water is crystal clear. We hike here all the time. They have canoe and boat rentals. Great place for family picnics. Overall the best state park I've been to.

Devil's Lake (called Spirit Lake by the Ho-Chunk) is a magical place to visit. This is a beautiful, natural lake formed by the glaciers. The lake is deep, the bluffs surrounding the lake are high. In the middle of August when it is HOT the...More

There are some great views here. The park is beautiful and well maintained. For the most part everyone is friendly and considerate. That being said— I’ll likely never return. There are SO many people. Though I enjoyed the views getting there was less than enjoyable......More

There was a short path near the restaurant area on the north side that was stroller accessible. Also the south side picnic area was flat and had some nice walkways. From the south entrance Grottos Trail was a level path... More

We also had just a few hours. I think it depends where you want to go. We wanted to go hiking to Balanced Rock and Devils Doorway. Both these rock formations were in the south entrance, so that's why we parked there. I... More

If you don't have a national park lifetime pass, which sad to say, only recently went up in price, then you would have to purchase a daily pass. The daily pass does give you in and out privileges for the 24 hour period, if... More

What would be the easiest trail that allows you some good views? Are there different parking lots, if so, which one should I use? It would be myself an my 6 year old who is very active and would like climbing but I would want to make sure he is safe too. Looking to spend no more than 2-3 hours.

North shore. Get your pass & exit the park .... then re-enter ( yea that’s what I said). You will notice cars parked before the nature center & you have to get there by 10:00AM. If you park at the main lot your adding time which your trying to avoid. There’s room for maybe 20-25 cars. There’s a trail leading to the West bluff trail. Serious stairs built out of stone go for maybe 5 minutes then it goes to dirt/paved. It starts steep but levels out till it heads down to the south shore. Once...More

Devil's Lake State Park or Sherwood Forest/Yogi Bear? (3 Replies)
I've been trying to get a handle on all the options for camping in/near the WI Dells and having a hard time making a decision. Could someone give advice? We'd like to camp somewhere that our kids (8,6,3) will have fun. They love to swim and are not too picky if it is lake or pool. So... we'd like to have a pool/lake for swimming, playground(s), maybe some kid activities to attend, clean, good bathrooms, shaded sites, (I prefer not too much dirt but I'm the only one that cares), I'm leaning...More

We are having a very hot and very dry summer. I would not want to be tent camping right now. However, that can change rather quickly :) Most of southern Wisconsin is under sever drought conditions now. Hopefully by the time you come we will have had some rain. Right now there is a burn ban in the county where Devil's Lake is, so campfires may be prohibited. Something to keep in mind. But that would also apply to the other campgrounds too. Another problem that Devil's Lake, and other lakes,...More

Devils Lake Mosquitoes (0 Replies)
My fiance, his 6 year old daughter, and I will be traveling to Wisconsin Dells next week. We will be tent camping at Devils Lake State Park. Can anyone give me an idea on how bad the mosquitoes (and bugs in general) are this year, especially in the wooded areas at the State Park. Both myself and the 6 year old have reactions to mosquito bites and don't want this to ruin our vacation. Also what have you found to be the best way to ward off the Wisconsin State bird - best spray, candles, etc :)...More
