It is out of the way, so maybe it is not worth it for some. But I was in the area and looking for a FREE activity. For something that costs nothing, it is very nice! A good if small collection of artifacts, all related to the history of the airport, or people and companies of the area that have served the aviation industry. The airport building itself is a time capsule, and is interesting as architecture. The interior retains its original design and is wonderful, to the point where the place does not even seem like a working airport, but it still is. If you love aviation history, this is well worth a visit.

The museum is located in the terminal building of a functioning airport. If you are in the Wheeling area to see aviation history, this display, along with the Louis Bennett statue and Fokker Field/Langin where where Charles Lindbergh visited, makes for a nice weekend of activity.

My husband is a light aircraft pilot so whilst we were in the area we called in here and it is an amazing place. Definately worth a visit. A great insight into what flying used to be like 50+ years ago. THe gentleman working here was welcoming and informative, and my husband had an in depth discussion with him on the subject of flying!

Very small and disappointing museum. Not worth going. Not much aircraft activity and the manager has no clue about aviation or aviation management. The county doesn’t care about the airport. Could be a great place again, if Ohio county would care about the airport instead of focusing so much on the highlands.

Being an out of state geocacher, this was on my list to see. Apparently, its a secret! This is a functioning small airport terminal, but what was inside was one of the best airport museums I've ever seen! Even right down to the restrooms ... yes, the "johns" was something right out of the 1940's

To see what air travel was like in the 1950s and 1960s, come visit this FREE air terminal building/museum built in 1949. Scheduled air service no longer occurs here, but Allegheny Airlines and some of its predecessors flew in here for many years. The small terminal houses a plethora of interesting memorabilia from that era, including some art deco glass doors. Dwight Eisenhower met Richard Nixon here just after Nixon's Checkers speech that somehow kept him on the VP ticket in 1952. John F. Kennedy and wife Jackie Kennedy sat in these chairs while waiting for transportation after a mix-up. Local military pilots are honored here with some of their uniforms. Plan on spending about an hour if you are into this kind of stuff. The airfield is about 8 miles north of Wheeling WV on Route 2 that follows the Ohio River. Coming northbound, turn right onto Short Creek Road, then about a mile turn left onto Girtys Point Road. Drive up the hill less than a mile to the airport on the mesa. There are airport signs to follow.

I took a wrong turn and came upon the Wheeling-County Airport. I had some time to spare so decided o stop in. From talking to the gentleman who greeted me, I understand that the lobby was restored. He also shared with me that several Air Force Ones have landed there. It is a throwback to an era when air travel was sophisticated and elegant. If you live in the area and have not seen this airport you should visit. If you are passing by do yourself a favor and stop by.

As a certificated private pilot I love this place. Lots of early flying artifacts in a late 40's, early 50's atmosphere. It gives you that good old days of flying feeling.
