Got to see an awful lot of Wheeling recently trying to locate McColloch's leap marker on the National Road. On the first pass, I was in the right place but missed it because it was blocked from view by oncoming traffic and I was diligently...More

Learned story about this Leap when I was a child back in the 50's As a kid was intrigued by story of McColloch leaping over very steep hillside on horse and later being caught by Indians at later date. Neat small piece of local History

I worked for the City of Wheeling Engineering Dept. and did the construction drawings when the remaining building was renovated in the 1970's. It was nice when completed, but now the kids have destroyed it with their graffiti. Do not go there for the building....More

There is parking for about 10-15 cars alongside the road and at the fort. Surprisingly, I found this to be one of the most interesting sites in Wheeling. Somehow the graffiti didn't take away from it. Lots of people were coming & going and taking...More

We went up there and took some really neat pictures of the Ohio River and the building. It has a great view.

The market is located along National Rd (Hwy 40) near Pike St. It overlooks a lovely industrial park, a polluted-looking Wheeling Creek, and the area is littered with trash, debris and graffiti. Park at your own risk to walk to the actual marker. Off you...More

This place is dirty, in a not very nice neighborhood and offers very limited parking...very limited. What it does have going for it is history, a great view and Generations Restaurant and Pub near by.
