Build in Gad WV, but they could not name it the Gad Dam for obvious reasons. It creates the largest lake in West Virginia.

This a nice to place to visit. The area is full of Civil War History. Many things to check out on this. The Dam is actually built in a town called Gad. This is true. They named it Summersville Dam because Gad Dam didn’t sound...More

I happened to be working in the area for the week and decided to take a drive. I was surprised by finding this little gem. The views around the dam area were incredible. If you take a 1/4 to 1/2 mike from dam to a...More

Dams are always interesting. Summersville Dam and Lake is also very pretty. We took a drive up there while staying in Fayetteville. We visited on a Thursday, so missed the weekend, when LOTS of water is let out through the dam. It was still worth...More

If you want to be right where the water comes through the dam, this is the place to visit. Early in the morning, during Gauley Season, you can see the rafters put in for a day of fun on the water.

The dam is very big! It's fun just driving over it but seeing from the other side is impressive. They were releasing some water but the river was mild. Beautiful views and great place to watch kayakers playing in the rapids.

We took the little drive across the dam and took the time to explore the park. It would be a good place to take the kids to picnic and play at the park. If you don't like heights you would not enjoy the dam but...More

Stopped to see the lake and dam. There is an overlook for the lake, and further on there is s busy boat launch. People were fishing on the lake. At the dam, water was being released, and created a billowing gushing surge of water. You...More
