About
Kirkwood Winery has been in business for nearly 30 years with new ownership since July 2017. We are still producing West Virginia's finest wines and distilling small batches of moonshine and bourbon in what is possibly the smallest licensed distillery in the United States. Located in the heart of West Virginia, we offer wines that reflect our mountain heritage. Visit our Country Store with WV made products, taste our wine, and tour our distillery and observe the crafting of the Southern Moon, Rye, and Grappa.

Definitely would not recommend. Horrible location. Ran down looking buildings. The wine is absolutely disgusting. Wouldn’t recommend to even my worst enemy. The owners seem just to be out to make a quick buck and are pretty snobbish for people who own a still out in the woods.

This winery has a very poor set up of making wine, and the wine tastes horrible! Coming from traveling the world to this wine my husband and I had to throw away the bottles we bought! Even trying it made me sick afterward. The only reason this place is so popular in the area is because it is all the area has, and no one knows any better!

Say the signs on our trip north and decided to try it out on our way home. Was glad we stopped because they had a great selection of wine from sweet to dry and lots of fruit wines. Tastings were free and the staff was very nice. We purchased two bottles and when traveling home we will be sure to always make this a stop for a bottle of wine!

We visited for the annual grape stomping festival. We paid $12.00 each to sample and enjoy the varieties of wines from Summerville, WV. I was most pleased with how friendly everyone was at the winery. They were pouring samples as if they got a bonus for giving the wine away. They were all too pleased to explain what it was you were sampling and in many cases gave a history of why and how they came to make it.
While we did eat here it was from tented vendors so you're not going to get a meal but hey they do have excellent wines.

We had a lot of fun while tasting at Kirkwood. The employee was very friendly and accommodating, allowing us to taste any wine or moonshine that we wanted. It wasn't as "sophisticated" as other wineries that we have visited in other states, but I think that is the owner's intent. They have a huge selection of wines and moonshine, including ginseng, ramp, dandelion, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, peach, pear, apple, grape, and several more. We will definitely be visiting Kirkwood again!!

If you like sweet wine, this is the place for you. They do have some semi-sweet wines. The Reisling is good and the corn whiskey aka moonshine is great. The owner was very friendly and we got to learn all about Ramps. I would stop again if I were in the area.

My husband and I visited this past Saturday. We had a horrible experience at Smooth Ambler Distillery which made our day horrible. When driving home my husband suggest I look up Kirkwood Winery and they had a distillery also. It was on our way home so we stopped by. The woman was extremely helpful and gave us a tour on the spot. She said they had no tour times and only asked to call ahead if it was a large group of people for the cheese trays. We sampled several wines until we found one my husband and I both agreed on. They had a huge selection to sample and purchase with lots of jams and decorations for sale also. Whenever we are back around Summersville we will make another stop. Its worth the trip. Also when we found out they buy dandelions from the boy scouts it made our trip.

Kirkwood Winery is such a great reflection of WV. They have TOO many flavors to choose from (haha). Everytime we visit we have to purchase 5 new different flavors that we haven't ever tried. Blackberry and raspberry are especially my favorites!
