This tour was a lot of fun. We were able to schedule it last minute and the start was just a short walk from out AirBNB. Janet was dressed in period attire which added so much to the effect. It was just the right amount of spooky mixed with some incredible history of Sheperdstown and the region. It got dark during the tour at just the right time to get the sense that there was something spooky going on. A couple of friends who were a bit spooked out laid back from the cemeteries but still had fun on the tour. We definitely saw parts of the town we would not have seen otherwise and ended up venturing out the next morning to see some of the buildings and gardens in the daylight. The price was very reasonable and it made for a great outing.

Janet is a master storyteller weaving tales as you stroll through town. She polls her audience for their interests and adjusts the themes and details of her stories accordingly. Is history your interest? Or the paranormal? Will the goriest of details be appreciated? Her love for this town shines through each stop.

Janet is a great tour guide! Even on a cold January evening, she gave us an excellent 90-minute tour of the town. Many stories shared, explaining the history of the town, the cemeteries, historic buildings, and various sightings. Would recommend 10/10 as a small tour group with friends!

This just might have been one of the best fun & historical tours intertwined with ghostly/paranormal stories I have ever been on....and for a terrific price to boot! I had made reservations months ago as part of a surprise birthday gift for my fiance. Sadly as our tour date approached, there was severe weather forecasted and I had already had plans the following evening. Not a problem. Janet could not have been more wonderful and accommodating even holding an earlier tour the next day so we could still make our previous engagement. She was very warm and incredibly knowledgeable on the rich history of the town. Also, a fun added bonus is one of the cemetery mascots, Cecil the cat, who greets members of the tour during one of the stops. Can't say enough good things so I shall leave it at that. Stopping or staying in Sheperdstown? Take the tour.

This tour was truly amazing! Janet, our guide, was full of history about Shepherdstown and the paranormal activity that continues to happen. You can tell she is passionate and respectful of the those that have lived and died in Shepherdstown. I enjoyed the freedom to explore the cemetery after she prepared us for what may happen and what has happened in the past! I would definitely recommend this tour, and I look forward to joining it again later this year!

Didn't know quite what we were getting into, but our guide, Janet, asked what we were most interested in (history vs supernatural).
I would highly recommend this tour on your first evening in Shepherdstown as there's a ton of history with the various buildings, streets, and spots where something unusual happened. You'll look at this town much differently on your next day.

I enjoyed the tour so much last year, a group of friends and my family came back last night. We were greeted so gracefully by our guide, Janet in beautiful period dress and classic lantern in front of the library. This guide is very connected to the town and continues to do research to provide authentic historical accounts of this amazing little town, those that came before us, and those that have not moved on. Her stories encourage you to use all your senses and be in the moment. Her detail takes you back in time and makes you continue to look over your shoulder and be very aware of your surroundings!

Our tour guide was Janet Hughes and let me tell you, she was fantastic. Every story she told sucked you right in to the history of this great town. Very knowledgeable and great speaker. I highly recommend anyone that wants to learn about the paranormal or Shepherdstown itself, take this tour and book with Janet. The hour and a half flew by and left me wanting more. It was a perfect end to a wonderful October night!

My sons (21, 14 and 13) went on the 4/09/2022 tour with Janet. I've been on several ghost tours, and this one makes all the rest look like they're moving in slow motion. I won't provide any spoilers, but my two younger sons both took photos of would-be apparitions that Janet is reviewing for future inclusion in the tour. Furthermore, the history, culture and architecture is mesmerizing. Living in Fredericksburg, VA I'm familiar with Civil War and Colonial history, and Shepherdstown is every bit as endearing. The town its self is a must-see in WV, and frankly, I'm so smitten that I may retire there, lol. But getting back to the tour, if you're in the area the most reasonable price is far exceeded by what you take away in knowledge, endearment and possibly a paranormal experience. The tour isn't hazardous, but is exciting. Because of some of the history it isn't for kids.

I have lived in Shepherdstown for 37 years and I often take my guests from out of town on the ghost walk with Janet. It is just a fun way to give them a little history of the town and build on the ambiance Shepherdstown exudes.
We took the Halloween tour last night and had a blast with both the stories and seeing all the trick or treaters out for the first time in 3 years.

How much does this tour cost per person on a Saturday, how often does it run, and how do I book it?

I'm sorry, I don't recall exact price. I did get the phone number for you from her facebook which you can also look at. It's under Shepherdstown Mystery Walk on facebook. Her number is 301-639-0351. She can give you all the details plus you can make your reservation as well. She's very down to earth and easy to talk to. I would also check into having a nice early dinner, late lunch while you're in the area as there are quite a few nice restaurants. Enjoy!
