After a week in the Niagara Falls area, Pittsburgh, Gettysburg and Lancaster, my 9 year old says New River Gorge was her favorite stop of our week-long trip. We had no idea what we were stopping to see when we saw the brown signs of the National Park Service. The view from the Canyon Rim Visitor Center is terrific; the... More

This is the place to go to learn about the New River, Gorge Bridge and hiking trails. We ended up spending more time than planned plus it kept us entertained while waiting out a surprise thunderstorm.

I enjoyed visiting the visitor center. My family originated in this area so it was very informative to see the history of West Virginia and the difficulties of getting around prior to the bridge. It is absolutely amazing that pre-bidge, how difficult life was. Definitely puts life in perspective!

It's a good place to stop and stretch your legs if your traveling. The visitor center offers good information as well as bathrooms and a nice gift shop. There are several nice picnic tables a very good dog walk and several great breathtaking overlooks of the gorge and the bridge.

There is a view of the Gorge Bridge from here from a deck in the woods. However, during the late Spring and Summer, the trees obscure the river down below. Still worth a stop, however.

The Canyon Rim Visitor Center has a little museum area giving you information about the New River Gorge and its history. There are also scenic overlooks where you can see the bridge and the gorge. Beautiful views!

You have to stop. There's a great view, a little history, and a restroom. If you have a picnic, bring it here. I really liked the balcony overlook.
