Went did the TimberTrek Ropes course. We had a crew of 13 people, mostly kids aged 11 and younger. There was a course for all of us, from easy to much more challenging. It’s definitely worth the money if you’re looking for a different kind of adventure outdoors, and the kids all had a blast! For the harder courses, you have to be somewhat physically fit and not afraid of heights, but it’s perfect for someone who wants to challenge themselves. While there is a course for kids aged 4 and 5, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you yourself aren’t planning to go on the course. Here is a photo of the blue course (harder course) and the yellow course (great for kids).

We did the upper New river family rafting trip this week. The trip was excellent. The whitewater rapids consisted of class 1,2, and 3 rapids throughout a 12 mile stretch of river. We had a 7 yr old and 9 yr old and they handled the rapids and duckies just fine. We had one with each parent, They had a blast. The entire trip was about 6 hours maybe 4 to 4.5 on actual river. (transportaion, instruction, gear).

The guides were excellent. We had 3 guides (Ben, Kayla and Rocky). They did a great job. Ben went over safety instructions and gave advice on how to handle the rapids. Once in the water, the guides were helpful and interactive with the rafters. They seemed to really enjoy their job. They were especially great with keeping the kids entertained. Kayla played music and sang along. We had nice lunch on a sandbank on the side of the river. Two rafters were flipped during the Legacy rapids i believe. The rafters seemed to follow Ben's instructions and were quickly pulled back to their rafts by the guides. The guides also provided cold beers, water and soda on bus ride at the end of trip. We purchased the photos and video by Justin. They were both great, We watched the video and its so funny to watch our children's faces as they attempt to row through the rapids.

Thank you. We had a great time. Cant wait to return.

Several family members from various states with several children varying in age went on Upper New trip. Joe Bo was our main guide and he was fantastic! Thorough in all communications and guidance. He was very patient and a strong leader. This must be very difficult given the levels of experience and ages in the group! The group was supported by Barry, Tony, and Dean. The three of them were so kind and patient! Their love for the water and their jobs genuinely shows in the way the speak and interact with the guests! Barry got down on the level of each guest and engaged with everyone. I can speak for our group of little ones and say that his personal interactions made them feel more secure. The Adventures On The Gorge team and experience is first class! I have rafted several times and they are my go to every time! We are already planning our next trip!

Adventures at the Gorge was a great choice for us especially during these covid times. Really easy to socially distance from others. There is a lot of outdoor seating near the pool and Smokey's restaurant (the restaurant inside also was completely open because they have windows they can collapse to let all the air from outside in). Smokey's is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also have a coffee shop that has breakfast sandwiches.

We stayed in the Kaymoor cabins which were perfect for my wife and I. They have a microwave, coffee maker, and a pretty big mini fridge. The rooms were very clean. There's a picnic table by your cabin with a firepit that also has a grill rack.

The giftshop sells a bunch of different things. You can purchase wood and firestarters if you want to have a fire outside your cabin. The overlooks of the bridge and valley are really nice from Smokey's. The pool is pretty big and there are a lot of chairs to choose from. They have put a lot of thought in keeping their guests and staff safe during these covid19 times.
There is a nice 9 hole disc course as well, and at hole 3 we found path to a stunning overlook of the valley and bridge.

We did the following adventures.
1) Half day rock climbing - Our guide had over 10years of experience and was really informative. We got to climb the same rock 2 different times. We have never done this before, but it was pretty enjoyable for a beginner. Next we went repelling at bridge buttress trail.
2) Evening Guided Hike - We went to Diamond Point overlook which was a fantastic view of the Gorge (we went to a few different overlooks and this by far was the best one). Our guide was very informative and taught us a lot of the plants and trees in the forest.
3) 3hr flat water kayaking at Summersville Lake. Saw a lot of the sandstone and went under the bridge.

All of the guides for our "adventures" are very passionate about what they do and have so much information they provide to you.

Attached are some of my photos from my trip.

We loved the Flatwater Kayaking tour! Our guides Tracy and Casey were so friendly and knowledgeable about the lake. I highly recommend asking for them! We kayaked along the lake shoreline past coves and stunning rock formations. The lake was not crowded at all, as we took the 6pm tour and believe that most people were done for the day. It was active and relaxing at the same time!

We were visiting the Gorge with our two granddaughters, 8 and 10, and the family rafting trip was a lot of fun for all of us, especially for the children who have not been rafting before.
The organizer, bus driver, the rafting guides were all very professional and safety conscious.
Even though we did not stay at the AOG compound, our rafting trip included the use of the pool and other amenities after we returned to the compound. Very nice.

Nice cabin for a three night stay. The living room is large enough to have an air mattress on the floor with the pullout couch open. Giving a four vs. five because we were fighting ants in the bathroom the whole time, but that comes with staying in a cabin. Having the back deck is great. Allowed us to hang out away from all our clutter in the living room. Also gave us a place to dry clothes from swimming and rafting.

Decaying mouse in mouse trap under sink - been there long enough that at least it didn’t smell anymore
Mice droppings in kitchen cabinets and drawers.
Upon entering he cabin we found trash (Doritos bag and chewed plastic straw) on living room floor and shopping bags with trash in them shoved in the corner in the front bedroom.
Did not appear the cottage had been cleaned in months based on thickness of dirt and cobwebs in the corners and under furniture.
Litter in the yard around the cottage.
No matches or paper in the cottage to light the fire pit.
No ice trays in the freezer.
No salt/pepper in kitchen.
Screened in porch is not accessible from inside the house. One has to walk out the front or back door and walk around the house to the porch.

Can’t say enough good things about this place! We didn’t get to spend a lot of time here as we breezed through on our quest to visit all 50 states with our kids (not all in one trip!) But this CA crew was overwhelmed by the beauty of this place! The location can’t be beat. We enjoyed some pool time looking out over the bridge (even if the tents from the previous evening’s wedding massively obstructed the view). The restaurant was great, food was tasty, but the view of the sunset over the gorge might just have been the highlight of our 6-state trek this time. Either that or chasing fireflies on our walk back to the cabin, or enjoying s’mores at our own private fire pit (with surprisingly few bugs) or the memories of conversations with our teens as we soaked in our own jacuzzi on the porch of our cabin. We honestly can’t wait to come back and take advantage of more of the adventures they have to offer here! We definitely underestimated West Virginia!! Might be one of our favorite states now of the 46 we have visited! It really felt like it was almost Heaven. Memories to last a lifetime for sure.

We went right after the remnants of Hurricane Ida went through, so there was a lot more water than usual that spawned some class 5 rapids. Or guide was Zac and he was great. The bus trip and loading and unloading the rafts was a lot better than some other rafting trips we have done, as the launching and out take were both on the river and the bus could get close. The facilities were you meet was nice buildings and clean bathrooms. The Adventures on the Gorge was an adventure resort with a restaurant and lodging. We only did the rafting, but if I had known, may would have stayed on site.
