If you're in the area downtown Hinton is worth the trip. The Railroad Museum is a must stop for those with an interest in old time railroading. It's free but do leave a donation.

We were so surprised by all of the info on the railroad in this little museum. The lady who founded it was very knowledgeable and was eager to share. It was free with donations accepted.

The Railroad Museum is one of few places in town to visit or spend time, other than the local state parks and rivers. It is very large and completely full of railroad history of southern West Virginia. The older lady who runs the museum was as knowledgeable about the railroad and local history as any one person could possibly be.... More

We love this museum in the historical town of HInton, WV! Every autumn we travel that way for the Hinton Rail Days Celebration where there is great food and vendors and great info on trains! We LOVE trains and enjoy watching the Amtrak full of sight seers pull into the station! The museum is wonderful! Located in an older building... More

We happened to be passing thru the area on our SPring Break trip and stopped at this little museum. The lady at the volunteer desk was very nice and very informative. I think our nine year old even enjoyed browsing thru the museum. After leaving this museum, we had to go find the statue of John Henry in neighboring town.... More

Visited while waiting to reboard the New River Train Excursion. Lots of historical information to digest and not enough time that day. The museum volunteers were very friendly and informative, especially the older gentlemen who used to operate the telegraph and teletype systems.

Went to Hinton during Railroad Days. Stopped in the Museum and was pleasantly surprised with the details and information. Better then the crafters at the street fair.

This museum looks modest from the street but is quite large (two floors). Very rustic in a restored, historical guilding with tons of local memorabelia from a by-gone era of railroading and commerce in Hinton. You can easily spend an hour or longer in this charming little place, and they take donations but do not charge any fees!
