My wife and I stopped today at the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace in Hillsboro, West Virginia. Hillsboro, like many towns in the mountainous part of West Virginia, is tucked into a valley. Pearl S. Buck was born in a Hillsboro home to two missionaries who had lived in this house previously and came back to the United States for this... More

We just happened to see the sign for this attraction. We know of Pearl Buck because she attended college in our home town. The tour was magnificent and packed with a great deal of admiration from our guide. This tour is great for those who know little of her life.

Although I haven't read any of Pearl Buck's books, the person I was with did and so we called ahead for a tour. It definitely was work the time, as the docent we had was incredibly enthusiastic and informative. Every inch of the house is packed with historical artifacts, and it was neat to view Pearl's dresses and the innovative... More

Lots of history, antiques, and a deep understanding of a renowned American writer and her times. Beautiful countryside surroundings. Well-versed guides. If you have less than an hour, ask the guide for the quick tour.

If you are in the area of Hillsboro, WV, it is well worth your time to visit the Pearl S. Buck birthplace. First of all, the area surrounding this stately old home is beautiful; tall majestic mountains as a backdrop and large, green fields surrounding the house. Pearl only lived here a short while but was here for visits; her... More

If you are in the area, this is worth a stop. Knowledgeable staffer will take you through the house (actually two houses to visit), give you a history not only of the house but also of Pearl Buck and her family.

If you are a Pearl Buck fan, this place is for you, although she only lived here from birth to three months of age--not counting visits back here from China! The docent who conducted our tour of the home, which was really Pearl Buck's mother's home growing up, was a walking encyclopedia on Buck's family tree. The tour, costing $5... More

We just stopped to get a picture of the house but decided to see everything and it was very much worth the entry fee. Our docent (tour guide) was very knowledgable of the history and provided us with an awesome tour. She was most interesting and loved what she was doing!! We were so glad we stopped and ventured in... More

My 88 year-old mother and I toured the home in September. The docent was wonderfully accommodating and furnished some special parking and seating for her. She was a delight and she was very informative. Mom has at least 40 books by Pearl Buck and we found out we can donate those books to the Foundation and they can sell them... More

Beautiful area and it was fun to poke around. We went late in the day so it wasn't open to tour. The house looks interesting and learned a lot about Pearl Buck
