This park is a nice little history lesson in a beautiful setting. When we first drove into the park we saw 2 headstones and a monument to those who had died in this battle on Droop Mountain. There was also a cannon. As we drove up to the tower we saw signs designating what happened in different locations. Being there... More

Many places in eastern WV to view spots of historical value. This is one. Amazing that less than two hundred years ago our forefathers were able to travel and fight in this expansive terrain. Droop mountain provides one of the views that encompasses the valley where they were doing battle. There are many other areas not far away equally impressive... More

The place was breath taking at the tower over look. It isn't wheelchair accessible but just being there on top of the mountain gives you the same view. You can see for miles over the mountains. Such a lovely view. There are many areas in the park that you could have a picnic. At the tower there is a place... More

My wife and I stopped at Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park on our vacation at Snowshoe in West Virginia. This is a free attraction which features a winding road through the site of a battle that occurred here in 1863. We enjoyed a picnic lunch in a quiet, tranquil setting -- certainly much different than what would have occurred here... More

If you like civil war history, this is a nice, compact park to see. The short drive through the densely wooded battlefield has informational markers at many locations. Culminating at the lookout, which offers striking views of the valley below. It also tells the tale of WV in the civil war, the state borne out of the conflict.

Such a beautiful place! Everything is well marked. We got a great history lesson. The battles came to life. I'd love to go again.

This is a beautiful forested area rich with Civil War history. There is a small museum, soldiers grave sites, cannon and several trails, which are worth hiking. There is a lookout tower at the end of the road which opens up to a panoramic view of the mountains and valley. Picnic areas and a small playground are there as well.... More

We enjoyed looking out so high in the air. It was a great view. We took pictures. There are swings for the kids at the park too.

This park has an amazing view and lots of history. The museum is open only seasonally so our history tour was quite limited. Makes for a nice, quick stop while in the area.
