Very out of the way spot with a fairytale-like half mile walk through old red spruce woods. Thick moss on the ground. Picnic tables in little secluded spots. It was too cold today (October 18) to picnic, but it was a lovely, easy walk, including...More

This area has never been logged. It is pristine and awe inspiring. This is what West Virginia looked like before civilization came along. Beautiful!!!

This is a small area of virgin spruce forest... There is a short hiking trail with a wonderful scenic overlook of a beautiful valley and several mountain passes... Well worth the pause in any trip...

Even though the old fire watch tower has been removed, you can still see beautiful scenery. Look around, those trees have never been logged. This area is a virgin forest. Now listen to the silence.

This rare, virgin Red Spruce forest is a glimpse at the forests of the high Allegheny mountains as they once would have looked before most red spruce trees were logged. Rare, endangered species such as the Cheat Mountain Salamander and the West Virginia Northern Flying...More

I chose this location because it was very secluded and was just what I needed! Granted the trail to the overlook is not long at all, but the view is spectacular....especially in winter! If you're driving through the area, go check it out!

A complete disappointment! The Gaudineer Scenic Area consists of a three mile unpaved, very rough road into an average heavily forested area with no views and nothing to see or do. Not developed in the least, and not "scenic" at all -- the state roads...More
