Everything about the Via Ferrata @ NRocks is absolutely incredible. I did this with my 17 yr old daughter and it was an amazing experience together.
The guides were wonderful and make it very easy. They are very encouraging and informative on what to do. They are with you the entire experience. The Via Ferrata rungs and cables make it very doable if you have decent strength relative to bodyweight.
We unexpectedly enjoyed the height part of it. Especially the suspension bridge. I felt calm and relaxed out there I stopped and took pics all day from different view points. The Vistas were so magnificent that I didn't even think about the height.
Definitely do the headwall at the end. The view is so worth it. The guides kept talking about it's difficulty, but we thought it was one of the easier parts. Fingerless gloves are also a big help.

My daughters and I travelled to Circleville, WV for the NRocks via ferrata. We'd done one in Colorado last year so wasn't sure how this would compare. I have to say that NRocks put Royal Gorge, Colorado to shame!!! Our guides, Madeline and Alex, were fantastic and knowledgeable. The course itself was in beautiful shape with amazing views. The optional razorback climb was difficult, but the view was so worth it! When you finish the NRocks via ferrata you feel that you've really accomplished something and, we loved it!! We are an outdoorsy, adventurous family, and we all felt we'd love to come back to this course and bring others to enjoy it. Phenomenal experience!

It was better than I ever expected. It was necessary in my life, as after learning of NRocks 5 years ago, I was finally able to get five to join me and we “did this”. It was strenuous yet exhilarating. The optional wall climb was pushing my limit and when I got to top, I asked myself if I pushed too far. Would not look completely down but it was something in e kne does, he knows he had to. With two guides for 9 people we were not only covered by Amanda was second to none. It was an experience I will cherish

We had a great experience, our guides were awesome ! They did a wonderful job of marking sure we were safe and letting us know what to expect, the climb was intimidating but wasn’t near as bad once we got started and was really fun , the views were perfect make sure you visit during the leaf color change late September early October. The only complaint was they did not have a gift shop , outside of that it’s a 10/10

It was raining a bit in the morning, so while rest of the group either cancelled or didn’t show up, I ended up doing it as a private tour. I was so glad not to cancel as I had wonderful time during the climb on a peak foliage day. The weather did clear up and I could see as far as spruce knob. This is definitely a must do activity in West Virginia if you are not afraid of heights!
The staffs and my guide were amazing, very attentive and helpful.

This was such a cool activity. I went with a friend, and we both thought it was a physically challenging but awesome experience. We are women in our mid-40s with a higher than average inclination for adventure. I stumbled across info for the Via Ferrata online and decided I wanted to do it for my birthday. There is a brief hike up to the via and down from the via, both on uneven and rocky ground. I wore sneakers, but had I known about the hikes up and down, I probably would have gone with my hiking boots. The guides are super friendly and engaging, and checked on everyone continuously to make sure everyone was doing okay. There are also at least 2 early exit points if you decide the via is not for you. A low profile backpack that secures snugly to your body at the shoulders and waist is also a good idea, so it’s not flopping around while you’re scrambling up, over, and down the rocks.

The via Ferrata was challenging, but felt safe. Our guide Laken was kind, patient and helpful. The views were beautiful, and we appreciated that NRocks provided plenty of time between groups, so we never felt rushed. We had a great time!

We had an amazing time with NRocks! Zia was a great guide. We loved the views, the challenge, and now knowing we were able to do it! We were a bit nervous about our ability - we do consider ourselves "average" for physical ability and are in our 40s and 50s. Though there were other faster, younger people in the group, we weren't the slowest and didn't feel out of place. We felt safe with the equipment and guides. Highly recommend!

Most exhilarating experience! We have done some previous climbing but not Ferrata style. The climbing was fun and challenging. We always felt safe and the views were incredible. The WVA mountains amazing! And our guide was what you would consider the perfect guide in every way. So much fun! Cost reasonable and so worth the money! NRocks great company and staff

If nrocks cancels due to rain, is it a full refund? We are driving through West Virginia so a rain check (pun intended) isn’t helpful. I’m not sure when I would be able to go back - we’ve got just one day to make it happen.

How do you get down from the top? And I believe you have various "opt-out" options if we don't think we can keep going. Is that correct?
Written September 3, 2019
sorry for the late reply. You hike back down. And there are two opt out points. But once you cross the swinging bridge there are no more opt out points.

Can my kids (10 -14) join to the via feratta too? They're in good shape and did some challenging hikes already?
Are there different levels or is there only one route?
Written July 31, 2019
Also, there is only one route on the Via, with a part that is optional once you get to it. They might be able to do the zip lining! Check the NRocks website for their safety info.

how strenuous is climbing? I am a moderate hiker and never tried climbing but would luv to give it a try. thanks.
Written August 17, 2016
As others mentioned there was a wide rage of people on the trip I was on both in age and fitness. As long as you are in decent hiking shape this should not be very challenging for you to do. Also the pace is not fast since safety is the first concern so you should be fine. There is only one spot on the 'Optional" part, which I would strongly recommend doing since it gets you to the top of the fin, which requires a little extra upper body strength for one step but it's not that bad. The rest of it is just like climbing a ladder, but the experience and the views are incredible. I plan to do it again in a year or so with some additional friends I've convinced to do it.

How does rain effect the Via Ferrata climb? Can it be done in the rain? Any suggestions for rain gear? Thanks!

Hello SavvyC,
Thanks for reaching out and asking us about our weather policy.
We climb the Via Ferrata in light rain. If consistent medium to heavy rain is expected we typically do not climb. In addition, if we're experiencing light rain, but the area has experienced medium to heavy rain in the past 12-36 hours, it's possible we will cancel climbs due to the saturation of the Via Ferrata.
In regards to clothing, we recommend a rainproof jacket, and pants in wet weather. We don't recommend anything that restricts movement as this could make climbing difficult.
Another user posted above that this time of year the temperatures do tend to be colder. We highly recommend dressing in layers, and having extra clothing in order to fully enjoy the experience.
Lastly, our cancellation policy allows you to cancel and get a full refund as long as you cancel at least 72 hours ahead of time. If you cancel between 72 hours out, and the day of a trip, we'll give you a raincheck. This policy allows guests to make reservations without having the fear of losing a deposit.
If you have any other questions, let us know. we're always here to help!
Thanks,
The NROCKS Staff

Can/should we bring a DSLR camera for the via ferrata? We can't tell from the photos if it would be a pain to carry while climbing. Thanks!

Hi Jennifer, A smaller camera will be more practical to click away with while you climb, however if you are prepared to wear a backpack there are definitely a couple of places you can pull out your DSLR for some fantastic shots! I would not plan on wearing it around your neck though, make sure it can be safely stored away while you are climbing!

We do not wish to do a lot of climbing. We would love to see the bridge and do the zip line. Is that possible?

Hi Jim, we're glad to see you're interested in visiting us here at Nrocks! We understand that climbing isn't for everyone but that's not a worry since our zip line/canopy tour is completely independent of the Via Ferrata climbing tour. The bridge however is only accessible through the Via Ferrata as it marks the halfway point of the climb. If you wish to see the bridge without taking the tour we have hiking trails you can utilize that will have you walking right beneath it! - Nrocks Outdoor Adventures Team -

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
