West Virginia has contributed far more than her fair share of members of the armed forces. "Mountaineers are always free," and we appear to be willing to fight to maintain that freedom. This memorial has outward facing sentinel statues for the major services, while inside names are etched in an honor roll. Plan to spend 30 minutes just absorbing the... More

Easy access to memorial downtown directly across from the cultural center and state capital. This is one of those places you are glad to see constructed just to show respect for our fallen soldiers that have gave their all for our freedoms.

This is a beautiful memorial that lists names in alphabetical order of those whose lives were lost in battle. Each set is grouped under the battle in which they served. It is very interesting and also very sad. However it is a nice place to visit to educate yourself and pay respect to those who gave their lives for our... More

This is right outside the Capitol museum and capitol building doors. Beautiful place to stop and read about history and take pictures.

The W. Va. capitol grounds are really nice. A visit to the capitol building shouls be in your plans if you are visiting Charleston. The Veterans Memorial is a very well done, tasteful memorial listing the fallen West Virginians who made the ultimate sacrifice in the various wars. It is as sobering as it is beautiful. If you decide to... More

A very beautiful memorial! Takes minutes to view and just steps outside the state museum. Very serene with the water around it.

If you have a friend or a family member who served in the Armed Forces in West Virginia and it is worth a visit to see the names who gave their lives in the Veterans Memorial.

Upon stepping on the grounds of this hallowed place, I got goose bumps. Being a military veteran, it was great to see how the city of Charleston honors and remembers their veterans so proudly.

Very beautiful memorial in a nice area with other statues'. My friend and I really appreciated the detail and stunning simplicity (not to imply it's simple just my way of saying it was not too much)of the design.
