The State Capitol is very pretty with the dome along the river. However, there was not one at the tour desk for over an hour. And there were no tours as advertised cause the tour lady did not come in that day. The Supreme Court room was very nice.

For a State historically muddled in corruption and confusion, it is remarkable that the West Virginia Capitol, and it's campus grounds, is among the most beautiful in the USA. A visit should include a lingering encounter with the main building, from the Governor's Office, at the entrance to the west wing, to the AG's Office at the east end of... More

My wife and I stopped there while we were in town for a Garth Brooks concert. This is a very iconic and stately building. The capital building faces the river and has a wonderful statue of Abraham Lincoln in front to greet you. This is a must see. Please take 30 minutes and at least visit the grounds.

We enjoy visiting state capitol buildings across the country. WV has one of the most beautiful capitol building of them all. When we drove across the bridge, the gold-leaf dome lit up like a beacon. The rotunda has a 2,000 pound chandelier and marble everything. Truly, it is one of the prettiest in the country. It is worth the stop.

The roof gleams in the sun, and the building looks just shy of majestic; it looks solidly built and safe. A feeling of security seems to accompany the building.

Unfortunately, the day we arrived there were no tours available nor could we find a brochure to help with a self guided tour. The building is absolutely beautiful. We did find both legislative chambers. The dome, inside and out, is stunning. The grounds are beautiful as well. And there is plenty of metered visitor parking available. Even without a tour,... Haven't been to the West Virginia state capital in over a decade. In town for a couple of days and decided to go by. If you've never been here it is worth the visit. It is a majestic, grand structure. Designed by Cass Elliott. The building is huge as are the grounds. Other state capital buildings pale by comparison. The... More

You can either take a guided tour or do a self guided one. There is much information available to do either. We loved the marble all over the place, many great crystal chandeliers and light fixtures that just gleamed. The governor's office reception room ladies were so welcoming and lovely to chat with. All kinds of free information available there... More

It is said that Cass Gilbert perfected the beauty of his buildings in WV before designing the U.S. Supreme Court. I believe it. The State Capitol is a group of buildings that include the Main Building and the East and West Wings, all physically connected so that all 3 branches of government, the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches can conduct...
