State capital

Our beautiful state capital is a must see. Take unsalted peanuts to feed the squirrels outside. It's a nice place to take pictures and inside is quiet and breath taking.

The best part of the visit is a walk around the grounds. But they do leave their doors open to visitors, including on the weekends for a self-tour.

This was #12 of capitol visits for us and one of my favorites. We found it easily and parking was simple; we actually had an employee approach us as we parked and tell us not to put too much in the meter, as he would quit checking after 5:00. Very nice, plus he told us which door to enter which... More

We visited the Capitol during the weekend so it was quiet and most of the offices were closed. I think a guided tour on the week days will be the best. The building itself is great so as the surrounding museum, buildings and the Veteran Memorial. A must see if you are visiting Charlston.

I love to visit the state capitol and it's museum. When ever we have company a trip to the capitol museum is a must. It's large, very clean and filled with history. There are sound effects in different areas that really takes one back in time. Their service and bathroom facilities are excellent. I recommend a quick stop at their... More

The Capitol Building itself has been called the one of the top 12 most magnificent state capitols. I believe if you are travelling through WV it is a must stop. Beautiful grounds and multiple places to explore (and squirrels to feed). Great for kids and families alike. WV Cultural Center, WV Museum and Veterans' Memorial are on the grounds of... More

Hours are nice. If u want a guided tour u need to call ahead for reservations. Otherwise u are on your own. The entrance is on the side not the front like u would think. U go through security and then just wander around. We went on a Saturday and I wish we would have had a guide. Looking around... More

We had decided to take a scenic drive from Summersville, West Virginia. We ended our trip at the Capitol. It's a beautiful building. They do guided tours, but they were not the day were there. We walked around on our own and were able to take lots of pictures, etc.

Easy to get to and park. Metered parking 25 cents per half hour. Enter on the sides of the building. Confusing to navigate and somewhat dirty but impressive. A little history but don't need a ton of time to go through it. Beautiful grounds!

After looking at TripAdvisor for things to do in Charleston my family and I decided to go to the capitol. We went on a Sunday. We did find where to go in to the building, kind of by accident. Once inside and through security we said we are hear for a tour. The security guard said, "Have at er" and... More
