Meh. My husband and I had the same experience with different massage therapists — lacked the pressure. They didn’t ask either if the pressure was enough. In fact, I had asked for more pressure since it felt like she was just moisturizing my skin. But even with that request, the pressure stayed the same, or lack thereof. My therapist was also inconsistent — her technique on one leg won’t be the same on the other. Strange. Not a fan.

I have always said that there is no such thing as a bad massage-some are just better than others. That was until I signed up for a massage with Mr. Tan. I have had many massages in many years by many different masseuses with varying degrees of experience in 2 countries. During my 90 minutes with Mr. Tan there was a lot of "rubbing and squeezing" and not much as far as true massage. There was way too much focus on my gluteus maximus and not enough in the areas with true tension. Bizzare and Yuck! I honestly could not wait for it to end and actually left more tense than before I arrived. Worst ever-even more than the gum cracking newbie I once experienced!!

My friends and I planned a girls weekend in Berkeley Springs. We thought the spa would be ideal. We signed up for 45 minute massages. Two of us got 38 minutes for $75!! Didn’t ask for medical background information. Massage was a joke, I had oil dripped all over me. Massage had no pressure or method. No scalp massage. It was quite honestly the WORST massage EVER. Tried to talk to what we thought was the manager afterwards and he could have cared less. Do not waste your money!!!

I traveled 2 hours to Berkeley Springs for a change of scenery, some wonderful mineral water, and some pampering. An enchanting, peaceful town ready to give one respite, to be sure. I usually visit the state park bath house for a mineral bath and massage. I found Atasia online and contacted them because they offer Eucaplytus Steam Bath. I lost my professional voice recently and thought this would help. I decided to treat myself to a massage there, too.

Upon arrival and throughout my visit to Atasia, everyone was exceedingly accommodating and pleasant. For being in a vintage building, the entire facility is sparkling clean, well laid out, lots of interesting rooms and has a wonderful atmosphere of freshness and serenity. The robes are lush. The steam bath was my first of its kind, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I received full instruction from the attendant before stepping inside. For 20 minutes I was transported to an intense fragrant fog, not so hot as to be uncomfortable, and lightly fragrant...but so steamy I could barely see my own body at times! Again, the steam bath was sparkling clean, and I was able to step out briefly for a drink of water waiting for me in a cup, if needed. It was a wonderfully hydrating experience to be embraced in a fog of steam and eucalyptus.

The attendant was there as soon as the timer went off (she was GREAT, by the way, wish I could remember her name) to knock on the door in case I couldn't hear over the steam. She led me upstairs to where massage therapist Huguette Allemann was waiting.

The next 40 minutes were amazing and transforming. Huguette is strong yet gentle in her touch. An ultimate professional, she was very attentive to the needs of my tired and needy body, and she gave me a most interesting massage. My skin was delightfully tingling from the oils she used, she worked each muscle system very deliberately and meticulously. Every movement of her hands (and arms) was unique and different from any other massage I have ever received. I was so completely at ease and relaxed throughout my experience that, of course, I didn't want it to end. I was given plenty of time to return to my familiar surroundings, and then invited to spend some time in the adjacent room, in silent repose near a trickling fountain, as I basked in the afterglow of being pampered in a most kind and generous fashion.

I spent the rest of the afternoon strolling the lovely streets and shops and state park of Berkeley Springs, and eating a tasty vegetarian meal at Oasis Cafe one block over. I also didn't forget to fill my water bottle with mineral water from the public spring so I would have the ambrosia of life to drink on my trip back home.

I will make the 2 hour drive to visit Atasia Spa and Huguette again, often. Their rates are very reasonable. Hughette is a rare massage specialist, and I highly recommend her and Atasia Spa AND Berkeley Springs, West Virginia to anyone seeking therapy, healing, relaxation, serenity and great tasting mineral water.

My sister & I had a day of treatments in March 2007. The spa felt very serene right away, and is decorated with plants and low lighting. We were given lockers and changed in the dressing room that had an adjoining bathroom (and shower, I believe). The robes are awesome (my sister took one home from the gift shop). Flip-flops are provided. We took a whirlpool bath first, which was a nice way to relax before the treatments. Nice sized tub, but the triangular shape made it difficult for two people to both enjoy all the jets.

I had a massage which was very nice. Not the firmer, deep Swedish massage that I am used to, but very good and relaxing. The therapist made sure to ask if I had any sore or tight spots, and gave them extra attention. He let me lay prone for a few minutes after the massage, and then I went to the papasan chairs for a few minutes until my facial.

The facial was very relaxing, but it is not a skin-specific or treatment facial (med-spa type). It was just soothing with lots of different creams applied, as well as a steam treatment. It also included a hand and foot treatment; hands and feet are slathered in lotion and placed in warm mitts. The therapist's hands were great and it was just as relaxing as the massage. She only said two things to me - "hi" and "you're done", so maybe she wasn't in an overly good mood. But she was good at what she did!
I do want to try other places in Berkeley Springs, but I would come to Atasia again, and recommend it to others.

I'm kicking myself giving this spa an 'average' review, but I'm feeling pretty generous. The receptionist was pleasant and so were the two facial girls, but that's where it ended. Hubby and I each had the same facial, but apparently had two very different procedures done. My husband and I each had a 45 minute massage. I was under the impression that the two massage therapists that did our massages were pissed they had to come to work for 1 massage each. The woman that picked up my husband was very rude. I asked my massage therapist to concentrate on my back neck and shoulders, and she still did her routine anyway. I told the woman at the beginning of the massage I would like lots of pressure. No such luck. My dog could have walked on my back and it would have felt better and made more sense. I would not return here. Had a better massage and friendlier experience at Berkeley Springs State Park.

My husband & I just got married in Berkeley Springs & visited Atasia while we were there. Don't bother.

Our friend had a massage from Frankie Tan & said it was great, which is what I've heard from others. Hubby & I each had 45 minute massages from other women on staff. He said his was 2 steps up from a mall store therapist. "she had checklist, and did everything on it, but didn't know why she was doing it or what she was trying to accomplish."

Mine was tedious & endless and really didn't feel like a massage at all. I had no watch and kept thinking, she's just warming up, or exploring to see where I carry my tension. Nope. She never did, even though I asked her to focus on my shoulders.

Then we had the 2 person whirlpool bath. The water was warm but not hot enough to merit all the warnings about no pregnant women, people with heart conditions, etc. plus the tub was slowly draining while we were in it,, and cooled off fast. The attendant knocked and cut our 20 minutes short because she could hear the jets. Meaning the water level had dropped a lot. Very disappointing visit. The place is pretty and cute, but I will try somewhere else next time.

Maybe it was because we went to the spa during the slow winter months, but the staff all seemed devoid of any life or energy, bordering on crabby and rude, but mostly just indifferent. My wife and I received a massage, a manicure and a eucalyptus steam room session. None of these experiences were overly positive or enjoyable, but they weren't horrible either. The steam room creates a thick fog that reduces visibility to a few inches, but when the pump kicks on it is loud and a bit scary because one can't tell where the noise is coming from. This made it impossible to relax. Overall an expensive and uninspiring experience.

Atasia Spa is my fav retreat in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia for it's tranquil setting and variety of spa services.
Frankie Tan is an expert massage therapist offering a relaxing foot and shoulder massage using heated oils and hot towels on your neck and shoulders. Reserve in advance for Mr. Tan Thursday through Sunday. 45 minutes or 90 minutes You can find more affordable massage in Berkeley Springs but they do not compare to setting or expert staff at the Atasia Spa. Enjoy!

pedicure was good , nice job lasted a long time . Kristy did a wonder job on my hands too. The spa tub was too small , like a average spa tub at home and at exactly 17 min there was a knock on the door. Front desk Staff gentleman was thoughtful and attentative and so was the hostess was very professional as well . I had heard Frankie Tan Gives the best message's had 2 there before so I tried
" Frankie" . I found he paid far to much attention to a point of hurting and bruising me on my buttocks and thighs , and I ended up with a few scratch's too. And at the end he sat me in a chair and mussed my hair and pushed my head into my spine! . its been weeks and my neck has still not recovered and I'm in more pain than when I started . I'll never see him again . and for that reason I am devastated . Because everyone else was thoughtful and professional .
