Amazing collection of red wines in Rattlesnake Hills

I think Portteus is one of the oldest vineyards and wineries in WA state and their red wines are always amazing. They have so many medal winning wines, it is hard to count. The best part of the visit is there are wines that can only be found in the tasting rooms and never possible in retail or restaurants. They... More

my favorite winery of the four I visited; bought orange muscat which can be stored downstairs in the basement and not in the fridge and also bought Pinot Noir

Great winery located a couple of miles down a gravel road. They have a large selection of wines available for tasting. Prices range from down right cheap to mid level. Matt the tasting room manager does a fantastic job. The Rattle Snake Red is a bargain, so you best make sure you have room to take an extra case with... More

We stopped at a few wineries in the Yakima and Walla Walla regions this fall. This was our favorite. No great view from the tasting room (no view at all). But the guide and the variety of wines (perhaps too many) will bring us back and will have us telling our friends about this wonderful winery.

Tasting room is in a warehouse with a large selection of varietals. Very knowlegeable and friendly staff eager to find wines you like. After tasting many wines we were ready to wind up the visit when he suggested pouring us two more wines and we ended up purchasing both: 2009 Old Vine Cabernet Sauvignon with flavors of backberry, pomegranate, cassis... Very unpretentious vineyard with a wide ranging selection of wine and prices, and pretty much everything available for tasting. Great host with which we had wide ranging conversation during our visit. Our favorite stop in two days.

We stopped at Portteus on a 25 wine tour of the area over 4 days. We did not know anything about the winery but we had a wonderful experience. Their tasting room is a large warehouse area with a very long tasting bar. This may not be the quaint tasting experiences of other wineries in the area but Portteus has... More

My husband and I arrived at this winery a little angry because of our previous experience. We entered the winery to the sounds of clinking bottles (it was bottling day). Matt came out and welcomed us and the fun began! Excellent wine and beautiful art work for sale. Matt was very knowledgeable and super friendly! We will enjoy our wines... More

My friend and I were planning a trip to the Yakima area. Because she had never been to a winery I looked for a winery that would be opened the day we would be in Yakima. I found Portteus and we decided to go there. It's 22 miles from where we were staying. They are open 7 days a week... More

When you think about all the wineries you visit on a quest for the best in a region, you most likely will always remember a place that encompasses these two combinations: excellent wines served by an incredible host. We had such an experience when we visited Portteus. Matt, our incredible host with his extensive knowledge of the wine and the... More
