For the past 30 years, we have spent a week in the Methow Valley in the summer camping, hiking, biking and kayaking on the Methow River. Many visitors float the river on whatever floaty thing they can find. We always take our inflatable kayaks and float from Winthrop to Twisp. It's a blast! Takes about 3-5 hours depending on the amount of flowing water for a particular year. Bring your favorite beverages and sunscreen.

Driving to the Northern Cascades, we found the Methow River along the way. It is a beautiful river that we followed for part of the way. Then wr passed through Winthrop. It was a charming, cute town! We had to stop. We went into some of the nice shops, grabbed a sandwich and had to get back on the road. Winthrop was definitely worth a stop and hoping to go back someday for a longer stay. It’s beautiful!

The Methow River is so fabulous, and so is the whole valley. There are many trails, and many of them are manageable for people who do not want vertical challenges. One of our favorites is the Suspension Bridge Trail. Spring flowers are beautiful, but other times are beautiful too. The scenery and vegetation will help clear your mind and fill your soul!

We hiked the trail that goes from Mazama to Winthrop, along the Methow River. A great fairly flat trail, through wooded areas as well as open areas. A really nice bridge has been built across the river along the trail. Beautiful views of the river and the mountains around the area! Ask at Visitor Center in town to find the access to this trail.

Taking a float trip on the Methow river with Methow Rafting Company was the highlight of our North Cascade vacation.

While we did have to compete with the river floaters and boaters, the fact that the river was low gave us so much more opportunity to wade and get into the mid-stream areas. Special gear rules meant single-barbless hooks, but that didn't seem to deter the trout from putting up a good fight and they were plentiful. As solely catch and release fishers, we enjoyed every minute, even when the fish weren't biting and our experience this time of year on the river was outstanding.

The Methow River is a great attraction for its nature beauty that it is situated running through the town of Wintrop. You can walk across the foot bridge no matter where you are parked or stay near the main street. If you need to cool off like we did we walked down to the river, there are many foot paths from the foot bridge for a little picnic, however if you go just on the edge of town to the west on hwy 20 there is a nice park to have a more comfortable picnic right on the river. We discovered this after. The water is very cool and it flows fast, so beware of your youngins. This river would also be very good for the River tubing attraction that they offer if you like the cool water.

We paddled the 10-mile stretch of the Methow River between Winthrop and Twisp. We enjoyed the scenery as well as the swift current with some riffles and standing waves. There is a transit bus that runs between the two towns, so we were able to get a shuttle for $1.00! What a bargain!
