The USGA blew it during their preparation. Forget the bad rap during the 2015 US Open. This place is fantastic. The course is challenging but straight forward and fair. The condition was great.

This walking only course is until any other course I have played. The entire course is built in an open pit which really plays with your depth perception and made for some shots landing much shorter/further than I anticipated. The views are very scenic on...More

We walked the loop & down on the beach. So gorgeous and relaxing! Wonderful for kite flying, dog running, or just sitting reading a book. Not a stressful walk, very smooth (unless you'd like to hike up the hill, that's a steep hill!)

Chambers Bay sits on the Puget Sound not far from Tacoma. There is a most beautiful walk along the top of the golf course. The air is fresh, the view of Puget Sound stunningly simple and the locals are friendky.

Adventures in Tacoma (3 Replies)
Hey there. I'm flying into Tacoma mid-June to visit my boyfriend who's been working on the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay. We're both from Pittsburgh so we're looking for someplace to take a drive to over the weekend. Mostly wanting to enjoy the landscape and any other cool, unique places within the region. Any suggestions?

Mt Rainier! It's arguably the best thing you could see in the state anyway, and it's convenient to Tacoma. And you really can't get more cool and unique than a huge active volcano that is the most glaciated mountain in the lower 48.

thats a new golf course for me, but looking its a nice area of Tacoma. Not too familiar with that area of Tacoma but University Place is very nice and near the water. You could stay right across the new suspension bridge in Gig Harbor if you do a google search.

If that's what you want to do then it sounds very good. If you like your theme parks then 3 days in Disneyland/Universal would be fun and not too stressful. Not a big fan of Santa Monica but one day between there and Venice beach is a good choice for a day out. So all very achievable all in all. You will have more trouble sorting out where to stay during this period ie. are you driving or using the public transport. For what you want to do I think you chosen well.
