Description:

Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium....

Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

My favorite zoo/aquarium in the Pacific Northwest!

Beautiful zoo with nice exhibits. Friendly, helpful staff. Plenty of free parking. Many food and drink choices. Our family had a great day!

Admission was very expensive even with my son's military discount.. A lot of walking and dead ends with no markings. THe animals we did manage to see obviously were trying to stay cool as the sun was very strong that day. We only saw 2-3 staff members during our whole visit.. Sorry to say it was not a great experience.... More

As a parent of young kids who are ardent fans of animals, I have been to several zoo/aquariums in the recent years. While most zoos get away with the usual inmates : chimp, elephant, tiger, giraffe, cheetah, etc; this one is quite unique and worthwhile even if you have seen plenty of other zoos out there. This one has animals... More

The zoo and aquarium features a limited number of well designed and coherent exhibits. The Asian sanctuary is an exceptionally well designed and landscaped exhibit for Sumatran tigers, cloud leopards, elephants, etc. with appropriately naturalized areas for the animals. The aquarium offers views of fish and creatures native to the Pacific Northwest and in a separate exhibit of course tropical... More

A nice zoo and aquarium. It is overall small in size but does very well with the quality and variety of the animals (i.e. a tiger, polar bear, penguins etc.) and keeping their habitats varied and natural. This means however that you might not see all the animals during your visit as they have areas to "hide" and get some... More

Very friendly staff work here. The layout and work that has gone into this place is amazing. Plan to spend at least 3 hours to take in all of the zoo and the interesting aquarium. The 3 baby snow leopards currently there are adorable! I loved my time there.

Sure its a small zoo. But it does a great job with what it has. Perfect location. Some great views looking south towards Tacoma. This whole area is nice.

The wife and I took our two young granddaughters to the zoo today. This is our 3rd or 4th time here. The previous times were more comfortable in that there weren't as many people. The older we get the less we enjoy crowds. I wear hearing aids that really accentuate the sound of the high pitched voices of some women... More

We made a quick drive to the Point Defiance Zoo from Gig Harbor. Being from out of town, we were not expecting the $6 toll across the Tacoma Narrows bridge, but once we were at this Zoo, it was well worth the expense. The highlights of this zoo to us: * the North Pacific Aquarium with its wide variety of... More

The day we went, we arrived a little after opening. (I recommend this so you can get the best parking and have the most time to see the zoo before this very popular attraction gets too crowded. I will admit that it is quite spendy for a family on a budget. Pierce County Residents: Adults (ages 13-64) $15.95 Seniors (ages... More
