Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium....

Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

Although the zoo is limited in size and offerings/exhibits, it was fine for a short afternoon 'field trip' for my two nieces. It didn't take long to walk around, but it was plenty for them -especially after they realized there was a carrousel to ride. Enjoyed reading all the bricks - as they were brushing up on reading over the... More

It is not a large zoo to to start with and with 20% of the exhibits closed for expansion it really was not worthwhile. We endorse the practice of animals having a large enough space to not always being visible so not seeing all of what animals as they didn’t bother us. That did not leave a lot to see.... More

I would skip this zoo and take the 5 mile loop drive instead. You can enjoy the friendly raccoons, deer, squirrels, and the beautiful views and trails with your picnic lunch all for Free admission instead.

We realized it was September but really thought it would be better than it was. They sure advertise on TV a lot. We saw maybe 5 animals. Many areas were closed including refreshment areas. Aquarium small but nice although they are building a new one to open in 2018. Walked the entire place in about 1 1/2 hours - not... More

First let me state everyone was wonderful. All the conversations with all the employees were always engaging. Hence the 3 for an overall experience. Paid full price to get in but the main show was shortened, and several of the animal displays were closed. It was an early fall day but if you charge full price the make sure all... More

This zoo has come a lonnnng way since bears in cages with metal bars. Most of the habitats are much more natural and there is a lot to see. Plan to do a lot of walking! There are also a lot of hills and/or stairs. Bathrooms are available. ZOO: There is a fair variety of animals to see from a... More

Most exibits lacked animals. The exhibits were small, and for as large as their zoo was, it was lacking in animals/exhibits. The plus was that they had a lot of opportunities to touch animals, and their kids zone entertained our 2 year old. After it being highly recommended to us, we were very dissapointed, and still left wanting to see... More

I've been to a few aquariums and this one represents the Northwest well. If you are here during the holiays you can go at night to see the Holiday Lights display wich is cute and romantic. Great for kids all year round!

We had such a great time recently. The show was fun. I love seeing the animals come on stage. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The twisty different flavored cone looked amazing. We hoped to get one but it's clear across the compound from the entrance. The merry go round was fun. The camel rides were ok. You only... More
