About Snohomish Balloon Rides
We offer an upscale, safe and comfortable hot air balloon ride. Take a nature walk in the sky. You will watch as the balloon is inflated and prepared for flight. We will even let you get "hands on" as part of the crew if you would like. Rising serenely above the landscape, you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier and the beautiful Snohomish River valley below.

Bob is a delightful person, but keep in mind that about 50% of their trips are cancelled at the last minute. If I had been aware that the cancellation rate is that high, I probably would not have booked the trip. This activity is perhaps better for locals who can wait for the right wind conditions and endure repeated cancellations across multiple days and weeks. Naturally the business has no control over the weather, but if you want to plan a special outing, know that this activity has a very high risk of disappointment.

We always appreciate feedback. You are correct any activity that is done outdoors will always be weather permitting and not many outdoor activities will be more at the mercy of weather than a hot air balloon ride. This is especially the case here in the Pacific Northwest. Weather is our #1 reason for cancelling and accounts for a cancelation rate closure to 30%. The weather conditions here between the Cascades and the Puget sound can change quickly. We will always do our best to predict weather as far out as we can and have included the risk of last minute cancelation in our website information, booking process, confirmation and reminder emails. Unfortunately on the day of your booking we experienced weather that produced high wind speeds that are unsuitable and unsafe for Ballooning. We are very proud of our perfect safety record over 37 years of flying. Snohomish River Valley is a challenging and technical area to fly balloons but the beauty of the views and the joy of the experience is well worth the process. Flexibility is the name of the game when planning outdoor activities and I understand your disappointment. I also regret that the balloon ride did not become a part of your Washington State journey with your son. I hope you will be able to experience the beauty of flight aboard a hot air balloon sometime. It is worth it Safe travels, Bob

It took six tries (first time was cancelled due to COVID restrictions; the other times were weather/smoke-related)… but we finally flew in mid-October, and it was wonderful! I am afraid of heights, but actually enjoy flying, as long as there is a feeling of security. There was such a feeling in the balloon. This was partly due to the height of the basket, partly due to all of the things that Captain Bob takes into account in order to be safe, and partly due to a surprising lack of the sense of movement, coupled with amazing quiet (except when the burner had to be fired up). Even though we didn’t travel very far because of minimal wind, we all agreed that that didn’t matter, because we were so stunned by the views in all direction. It was very relaxing and exhilarating at the same time!

Being high up with amazing views of the valley and rivers. It kind of looked like we were in an interactive painting, kind of surreal.

Bottom Line: This was an amazing experience, and we highly recommend to anyone!! We arrived at the allotted time and place to sign our waivers. The process was smooth, however our Balloonist, Bob wasn't- due to fog and and speed- whether we were going to make it up and out that day. We had paid ahead for a special, private flight for both of us, so he waited, and tested, and waited just to make sure that we didn't miss any opportunity to make it up there. And then, at the last moment, we did!! It was just the two of us and a three person crew, so the entire experience felt very personable and COVID- friendly. My husband got to help with set up and we got great pictures of inside.the balloon as it was it was inflating! Bob told of of his decades of adventures in ballooning as well as the town of Snohomish as we shot up to tall heights, from which we could see Mount Ranier, Seattle, and the San Juan Islands, then back down slightly lower again for a scenic tour of Snohomish. We finished with a champaign toast, and a story about the history of champaign and ballooning. We are a couple in our 40's, who have had to face a major health diagnosis, and we no longer fear going on the "big adventure." You shouldn't either. Carpe Diem! Book the trip! You never know when it might be your last..
