Skykomish River Class 5 Extreme Rafting Edventure

2 reviews
Close to Seattle, the Skykomish River is our most extreme river adventure offering the most difficult section of river commercially-run in WA state! The allure of the Skykomish River is the “Boulder Drop” which is Washington states hardest section of commercially rafted river, being class 5, but that’s not all the “Sky” river has to offer; there are many other class 3 and 4 rapids. such as Pat’s plunge, Aquagasm, Lunch hole, and The Wier just to name a few. All this adventure coupled with the beauty of Mt. Index and the surrounding Cascade mountains makes for a truly Northwest treasure of a trip. For experienced rafters, this river is action-packed! It is highly advised you have been rafting before you attempt the Skykomish River, and you must be able to swim, and ready to move around the boat quickly!! Minimum age is 16. The Skykomish is perfect for the adventure seeker who has rafter before and ready for the next big step in extreme whitewater rafting!

The Falls is between Skykomish and Steven's Pass on Route 2 which runs in the middle of Snoqualmie National Forest. From I-5 north we turned right on Route 2 and headed East. It's not the tallest falls in the US but it cascades beautifully down the mountain and goes under Route 2 and continues down further south. Great place to take pictures of the falls as it approaches Rt. 2 . WARNING ! be careful when taking pictures from the road; there is not much of a shoulder to stand on to take pictures as the water comes down and under the road. There is a place to climb down and a small landing under the road to take pictures but most people get out of the car and cross the road for pictures. Cars speed by and it's easy to get engrossed in your picture taking and forget there are vehicles whizzing by in both directions.

I loved this park! Lots of old growth along the river, with lots of rapid waters to observe kayakers braving. Don't miss experiencing the 'monkey cage', accessible by hiking underneath Hwy 2.

Took a day trip up towards Stevens Pass and found this interesting gem along the way. Parking lot was closed due to COVID19 but several areas to pull off along the highway. Be careful, traffic is zooming by. Easy walk on groomed trail and stairs down to viewing areas. Pedestrian bridge crosses creek to other side to walk under highway bridge. Very fast flowing creek in wet season. Short nature trail also here down to main river. Well worth the stop when passing through.

This was a nice little pitstop on our trip. The walk to the falls is short although not too good for handicapped .
