We visited on a beautiful day in early June. The hike up to the first main overlook is only about 0.5 mi (one way). Great views from there and easily reachable by most people if you don't feel like going further.

But if you can push onwards, you should hike the full loop up to the summit and then down the forested north side of the butte. Took me only a little over an hour to hike the entire loop (2.5 mi. RT). The most scenic sections are from the first main overlook up to the summit because you have sweeping views most of the way.

I had an amazing time hiking Kamiak Butte. The trails are very well kept and don’t require special hiking shoes. From the parking lot if you take the right side of the loop it’s pretty steep but there are so many trees that it’s in the shade and very beautiful. At the top there is an amazing view of the Palouse and the way down is a nice easy stroll. I went at the end of September so the leaves were changing and it was beautiful. I’m so glad I did this hike and I can’t recommend it enough. You don’t have to be an expert hiker, but being just a little bit in shape helps. I was huffing and puffing a little bit on the way up. Nothing too crazy though.

Yes, we all love those rolling green Palouse hills that stretch on for miles, but what happened to the trees? If you need a tree fix and a nice view of this fascinating area, I would recommend this lovely small county park. There's a 3.5 mile round trip walk that takes you up a moderate grade to a long ridge where you can survey the land. At the base, there are plenty of picnic tables and grassy areas in the trees. Yes, it can get crowded, so come before 10am and you'll have more alone time than at noon. Bonus: there is no park user fee.

I have been to Kamiak Butte multiple times. There are picnic benches, parking lots, gorgeous views, and plenty of trails for a day trip with friends, family, and more. Be careful and check the website before you go because sometimes the park is closed due to wild fires and smoke-filled air in the hot summer months.

Visiting Pullman from Denver, we were anticipating this hike with our son and daughter-in-law. Kamiak Butte didn't disappoint us with a well-maintained trail and spectacular views of the Palouse. Hiking in late May, we were treated to green vastness with the grain fields spanning over the Hills. Wildflowers greeted us and the shade of the trees made for a very pleasant hike.

Took my son to get settled at WSU and while exploring the region, enjoyed a visit to Kamiak Butte. Very easy to get to from Pullman (just north a bit, on the way to the town of Palouse), it's an oasis of sorts. Pines cover the butte, and a brisk but accessible 1/2 mile walk up allows for a lovely vantage point over the rolling fields below. The complete walk/hike takes one on a 3.5 mile loop ~ a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours. At the parking area, the grassy field with picnic tables and playground are inviting as well. So glad I ventured here & looking forward to taking another hike when I visit my son later in the fall.

This is a wonderful day hike any time of year. Beautiful views, and at the right time of year there are tons of wildflowers. If you are (super) lucky you may even get to see a Rubber Boa tucked into the side of the trail trying to look like a tree root! Don't worry they are harmless and RARE.
*my review says i took this hike in June, but I have done this hike during every month of the year- and it is always wonderful.

no doubt the best way to view the palouse. Hike in May/June to see the green and flowers, late july to watch the harvest. Best in late afternoon to accentuate the topography

Really nice outing, a challenging but reasonable climb. Might not be ideal in wet conditions, but on the dry days you will enjoy the extended hike to the top. The view is a great reward!
