Because of Covid they moved a lot of the gift shop to downstairs, and you can find beautiful gifts; I treasure the T-shirt I purchased there. Also a few food items are available.

Fortunately, we brought our own food. We arrived at 11 am on a Sunday and were directed to the overflow parking at the Paradise Picnic Area. Many cars were leaving by late afternoon. The Myrtle Falls trail was busy, so a mask is needed. The Nisqually Trail was less crowded, but had some gradient in a few places.

Great Views
Jul 2020
Great spot to see the mountain when their isn't any clouds or fog. The parking lot does fill up quick. Their are several great trails nearby that have good views as well as waterfalls. Some are very steep but they are worth it and all are paved.

A great day trip from Seattle
Jun 2020 • Solo
Any visitor to Seattle should make time for a day trip to see fabulous Mount Rainier. The Henry M. Jackson Visitor Center is where you should start your visit. Learn from the park rangers on duty about the mountain’s unique flora and fauna. Take a hike and bring a picnic. Please do not feed the wildlife and stay on the designated trail. The best photographs of your vacation will likely come from your visit to this majestic mountain.

Perfect Day
Sep 2019
We visited MRNP in the Fall last year and experienced its beauty. We drove into the park from Packwood via the 12 and made our way through, enjoying the sights and views, until we reached the impressive HMJ visitor center at Paradise, where we stopped in the huge car park area. It was a perfect day, bright warm, clear and sunny. We used the bathrooms and had a look around the center with its various exhibits to enjoy before venturing outside. We took the Skyline trail to Myrtal Falls a short enjoyable relaxing walk. Once back at the car we drove on to Longmire.

June in the snow
Jun 2019
We arrived at the Paradise Rangers station only to find the road blocked off ahead. We are from out of the area and didn't realize snow cover would be this late in the season. We were met with lots of professional looking climbers in full winter gear at the visistor center. This scared us to death! The weather was nice and temps were perfect to get out and hike... But like I said... Lots of snow.

We ran into a friendly ranger who told us to walk as far as we were comfortable going. Turns out, this was one of the best days of our trip. We were enjoying great sun and temps while spending two hours hiking in the snow. We watched from a distance as those "professional" groups went up the mountain and admired the views.

Thanks to that Ranger for giving us the encouragement we needed!

The kids did the Jr Ranger program and we watched the video presentation after the hike.

BTW... Visitor center has lots of souvenirs and a super crowded diner. It was good to have hot food for purchase.

Well maintained and informative
Oct 2019 • Couples
The staff here are really helpful and recommended trails we could explore. The bathrooms are clean. You can refill your water and sit down at the nice indoor benches here for lunch. Many visitors brought their own packed lunch. There is ample parking. The view from the Visitor Centre is the best on a sunny clear day. There is a small cafe and a theatre showing a short informative documentary on what to expect around the area. We enjoyed the hike at Longmire Trail of Shadows and Rampart Ridge Trail after that. The air is so fresh and the surrounding is beautiful.

Learn of the flora and fauna of the area, the geology and history. Hiking outside on one of the many trails you may see a black bear casually munching his berries as I did. Take the kids!

good displays
Oct 2019
2nd trip to Mt. Rainier but decades apart. Visitor center entry with restrooms etc very cold but it was October and it was cold outside and this was outside but it is probably refreshing during the heat of a summer's day. The visitor center itself was busy for a Friday in early October. To accomodate today's tech savvy visitors, the first floor of the museum had several tables and people plugged in to their devices. They also had a cafeteria. There is a movie (20 minutes) about the park you can view. Upstairs (stairs or elevator) which has many displays about flora and fauna of the mountain.

All purpose center for the Paradise area, free wifi
Sep 2019
The visitor center, nicely cared for and relatively new, is the heart of Paradise. It has an exhibit area, snack shop, gift shop, small lobby and a ranger information desk. Maybe the biggest attraction is the free wifi throughout.
