The trip started out very well with Captain Dan telling us alittle about himself, his experience, safety first, and his obvious love of orcas and the wildlife of this area. Liked that we had assigned seating so we didn't have to rush onto the boat looking for the best seat!! On each table were two sets of binoculars for our... More

We travelled from Florida with the mission of seeing orcas. When we checked in for our tour, the captain said they knew where 2 different pods were located and he chose the one less congested (further South - away from the boats who travelled from Vancouver). The captain knows the waters well and has a solid network of other captains... More

So glad we were able to take family here for what turned out to be a very memorable time for all of us. There were two naturalists on board who go out of their way to continually be available to share their local and wildlife insights; the boat captain is also knowledgeable and even the check in process is very... I recommend Orcas Island Eclipse Charters for whale watching tours out of Orcas Island. The boat was large and well equipped. The captain had lots of experience in the waters around the San Juan islands. The crew had two naturalists on board that studied wildlife in the area, so they could answer any questions about whales and other animals. We... More

Having now migrated from the Pacific Northwest to the east coast after living in the NW for so long, I am identifying and remembering the experiences which make this place so special. Whale watching with Captain Dan is right up there. We probably made the trip to sail out of Orcas Island on the Eclipse at least 10 times. Each... More

We took off with Captain Dan at 12:30 on a Monday, after meeting his lovely wife in their office. We were on board with about 12 other people. The whales were close by according to reports, and Captain Dan set out to find them. Our teenage girls rode in the front of the boat with the Captain, they enjoyed seeing... More

We went on a whale-watching cruise (about 3 1/2 hours) with about 20 other people. We got to see humpback whales, seals, sea lions, porpoises and bald eagles. In addition to the captain we had two other staff on board who helped with whale spotting, bird identification and general comfort. The captain warned us when we were going to hit... More

I took this tour solo and I had the most Amazing time.. Denise, introduced me to three other female solo travelers and called us the "Single Ladies Group". It was a perfect day for the tour and we saw and heard a lot of transient orca whales. We even got to see Harbor Seals on our tour. If you plan... More

A trip with Dan is the best...He knows where to find the whales if they are in the area...also the seals....he knows the history of the islands and has a sense of humor when he tells the story...when our grandchildren come to visit...going out with Captain Dan is a must.

We didn't see whales the 1st time, but thoroughly enjoyed Captain Dan & the naturalists on this charter, so we decided to go again the next day, and Captain Dan went the extra mile (literally) to turn around and go to an area where orcas had been spotted. We saw bald eagles, sea lions, and enjoyed the friendly, knowledgeable naturalists.... More
