Join one of the walking tours of the capitol. It is the only way to truly see it. You'll learn all kinds of historical information as well as see first hand how our capitol works. The architecture is simply amazing. One of the most beautiful state capitol buildings in the nation.

This place is amazing during Christmas. Take a guided tour and visit the huge Christmas tree display in the main lobby. Great place for family holiday photos. The volunteers are wonderful. Nice place to visit and walk around the grounds as well. I like to visit on the weekends as it is less crowded and free parking.

I have been a tour guide at the State Capitol but, yesterday I took 2 out of state visitors who were greatly impressed with this building and the knowledge of the guide. To think that most of the decor has been in place since 1928, and how it has survived, is magical. Did you know that this state has the... More

I used to work at the state Capitol and it is one of the best attractions in (the small town of) Olympia. Built in the 1930's, it is an excellent example of Roman/Greek revival civic architecture. The buildings adhere closely to the original plans (Olmstead brothers designed the campus) creating a rarely seen, harmonious setting. If you can get a... More

This is what Olympia is about. Plan ahead and you can even tour The Governor's Mansion every Wednesday afternoon. The State Supreme Court is also a must. The gardens are beautifully kept and it will be a memorable experience.

All the fixtures are Tiffany...the tour was totally informative. Very cool, and we'll the detour off of I5. The town of Olympia is very hip as well. Definitely going back.

We stopped by the capital grounds along with our picnic on a warm sunny day. What a wonderful relaxing experience. I would highly recommend this outdoor adventure with the kids

I hadn't planned to stop here but the building seemed to call me from the I-5. The beautiful dome of the Capitol building is easily in view from the freeway and so deciding to stop seemed like a great photo opportunity. We went wrong. The building is so large that it's almost hard to get a picture of the entire... More

As always guided tours are better, but this is small building to see and it does not take too much time.

I've done a self tour before and the Domed Capitol building is visually impressive what with all the marble and brass but this time, with guests from out of state we did the Docent guided tour. What we got was detailed history...learned where the marble was quarried (Italy and some from France) and who did the impressive brass, lamps and... More
