Great day
Aug 2020 • Family
Parking spaces are limited. When we arrived around noon, there was still a good amount of available spots. The water wasn't too cold, there wasn't a lot of people at the time.
We left around 3:30pm and the parking lot was full and people were parking everywhere.

Come on a weekday to avoid HUGE weekend crowds
Feb 2020
AVOID on the weekends unless you like wall to wall hikers and a "crowded like a subway" viewpoint on top. The trail is very well maintained and was recently (within last 10 years) reconstructed to moderate the grade and widen the tread. The viewpoint on top is just stunning. Look into the Cedar River Watershed, Chester Morse Lake and the masonry dam. This is where most of the world class drinking water for King County comes from. Beware of hordes of hungry ground squirrels and chipmunks on the top.... another good reason to keep your dogs on leash, lest you plung off the cliff coralling your dog. No joke!! Somebody dies up here nearly EVERY year from stumbles/trips, ill advised selfies of other reasons revolving around mental health issues.

Beautiful spot for a memorial service
Sep 2019
Visited Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area recently on a fall weekend (a Sunday) for a memorial service in the Cedar River Watershed education center. The location, including lake and mountains, is beautiful, especially with the leaves turning color. The buildings fit seamlessly into the surroundings. The kitchen was well set up and the staff was very helpful. Would love to come back and explore the center more thoroughly.

Nice pit stop
Oct 2019
I drove from Yelm to Wenatchee today. Rattlesnake was a nice place to stop and walk off some of the road weariness. It was snowing!! Way too early. Where did summer go? That just meant I didn’t get s great view at the top but the hike was beautiful. It was pretty busy - even today (36 degrees and snow).

Rattlesnake Ledge Hike
Sep 2019
My wife Terry and I recently hiked Rattlesnake Ledge. It was a nice stretch of the legs. Its about 2 miles long each way, depending on where you park. This trail is judged to be moderate to easy and I say moderate. We hiked in the late afternoon during a rainy week but the trail was not muddy. It was during the week, Wednesday and we only saw a few hikers going up and coming down. The peak offers a very scenic view of the entire area. Wear good hiking shoes, this trail is not for flip flops. Wear or bring a jacket as the peak is breezy. If its wet, rainy or snowy stay away from the edges to avoid falling as you will probably not survive a fall.

Really fun end finally to 40 mi John Wayne trail
Aug 2019 • Family
Great hiking trails and interpretive visitor center. Learn where Seattle’s water comes from. This is also the parking place to leave your second car if doing the awesome 40 mile gentle slope backcountry downward bike ride starting from Hyak, through the mile long pitch black former train tunnel (bring headlights and jackets), down the John Wayne Trail. Amazing full day adventure.

I am a long time resident, and absolutely love rattlesnake. I truly miss old Rattlesnake rec area. but Seattle public utilities has taken great strides to help the area.
the lake area is packed on the weekends in the summer and early fall.
but otherwise not too busy.
on a typical fall day , you may be the only one at the lake.

Rattlesnake is great for children, dogs, and family of any kind.
the fishing is peaceful most of the time.
if you fish please read the rules before heading out.
Pack a picnic and have a great day. Remember though, Donot feed the wildlife. Bears want your sweet watermelon and apples that you bring, please pack it out with you.

Stroll by the lake or do a hike up Rattlesnake Trail
Jul 2019
Nice BBQ spots around the lake area and a short trail. There is no trail around the entire lake, which would have been great. There is a hiking trail there that takes you up to Rattlesnake Ledge with great views around. The trail is relatively easy and well maintained though on weekends there can be huge crowds and can get pretty loud. The parking lot there can become full though there is other parking close by to the John Wayne Trail. Weekdays are best for quiet hikes.

Rattlesnake Lake
Aug 2019
We arrived to Rattlesnake lake on a Friday morning. We had no trouble finding parking in one of the lots and the lake was a short distance away. We were pleasantly surprised that there weren’t many people around - probably less than 10. If there was much else besides the lake and the trail I didn’t see it but it was enough for us. FYI, only washrooms here are outhouses. No sink or soap if you decide to use one.

Relaxing Spot
Jul 2019 • Friends
My friend and I did the hike up Rattlesnake Trail and afterwards we strolled around the picnic area around the lake. The area is beautiful and clean and well maintained. We didn’t stay long to picnic or anything but we spent some time walking around the lake, taking pictures and just soaking in the peace. We were there fairly early, on a Tuesday about mid-morning (after we did about 2.5 hours of hiking).
