About
Located in the Walla Walla Valley appellation of Washington State, Woodward Canyon Winery was started in 1981 by Rick Small and his wife, Darcey Fugman-Small. They have since been joined by the second generation, Jordan Dunn-Small and Sager Small. Since the beginning, the winery has consistently produced premium,age-worthy, award-winning cabernet sauvignons and merlots as well as chardonnays. Woodward Canyon's second label, Nelms Road, is also available at the winery. Governor Inslee recently announced additional restrictions to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Washington State. Due to changes in restrictions for service, as of November 18, 2020, we will be postponing all onsite wine tasting. We will continue to keep our “Visiting” page on woodwardcanyon.com updated with the most up to date details for our winery operations and are available by phone to answer any questions if you are planning a visit. We will also keep you aware of any changes in our upcoming newsletters.

Must stop here
Sep 2021 • Couples
What an excellent stop! The setting is lovely and the staff was great! We started in the gardens which was peaceful then moved inside when the landscapers showed up late to the staffs dismay but it was no big deal at all! Everything was good and the tasting felt abundant. We ended up liking so many things we had to ship it home! They let us leave our car to walk next door where our next appointment was and upon our return to the lot we got to see grapes going into the press. We even got to try a couple fresh!

Best winery in Washington
Sep 2021
Thoroughly enjoyed every single wine i tasted. I thought the best was the "pizza" wine which was made from local grapes but from diffrent parts of the wine region. The ambience, the hosts, and the guests made all the difference. What a way to end my wiine tasting trip!!!!! I am also impressed that they are able to sell its wine all the way to Georgia. That is awesome.

D*mn They Make Good Wine
Aug 2021
It had been 17 years since my husband was here. It stood out then and it still does. Even after many wine club memberships throughout California over the years, Woodward Canyon still shines above. We found all of their vintage wines to be excellent. The outdoor seating in the grassy garden was a perfect setting and Steve provided us with his knowledge of the wines as well as some comic relief which always promotes good wine tasting. We will be back!

Exactly what we were looking for in a wine tasting experience
Jul 2021
We arrived shortly after 10 AM and were greeted by Terry, who showed us to a seating in their beautiful grounds. The wines were great, Terry knew a great deal about the wines and the winery, and it was exactly what a good wine tasting should be.

We love the more informal tastings, where you don't need reservations and the focus isn't on a restaurant-like setting with gourmet food, but instead on tasting wine and learning about the wines, vineyards, and the local area. This place excelled in all those areas.

The only negative isn't with this specific winery, but the Walla Walla wine region in general. While the wines (especially the reds) were superb, they are not inexpensive. But the cost of a few bottles of wine to take with us more than made up for the great experience here.

This is how wineries should do tastings.

Fantastic Reds
Oct 2019
We were on a wine buying/tasting trip from Alaska, and Woodward Canyon was not on our planned itinerary. We're really glad we stopped. Fantastic red wines at a great value.

Terry was so much fun! What a wonderful winery!
Oct 2019
Our first stop was Woodward Canyon Winery and we enjoyed tasting their Estate Sauvignon Blanc and then moved on to four reds. You bet I bought a bottle or two! Terry was friendly, informative and didn't let our glass stay empty. It was wonderful!

One of Our Best Experiences

Delicious wines, nice low-key tasting room, friendly and knowledgeable pourer Terry gave us personal attention and a few recommendations for other wineries in the area based on our wine preferences. Bought a bottle of wine and can't wait to have it in the near future. Highly recommend you make this a stop on your tasting tour.

Nice small winery
Jun 2019 • Couples
Recently, on a visit to Washington State, we randomly stopped at this pleasant cozy winery and were very pleased. The wines are not cheap but we enjoyed the ones we tasted and ended up being willing to spend more than we usually do on a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Artists Series. The people serving the wine were knowledgeable and friendly, adding to a nice experience.

GREAT EXPERIENCE
Jun 2019 • Couples
This Tasting room is very good. The wines here area are a bit pricier than a lot of the local wines but I think you can really taste the difference. The Reserve tasting was very good. The sommelier was very helpful and answered all our questions. Tasting room was light and airy with nice decorations and a few souvenirs for sale. Also a nice little picnic area out back. We bought plenty of wine from them so they were happy.
