We’ve been going on whale watch trios with Deer Harbor for so long that I can’t remember the first one—about 12 years ago? Natalie is a first-rate naturalist and is so knowledgeable about whales and marine life in general. The trip is always enjoyable, even if the whales aren’t cooperating. This year (8/12/21) was great! We watched a family of orcas, about 5-7 of them, for almost an hour, as they hunted. Close enough to hear them blow, but far enough to give them space and not violate the rules. DH always puts the whales’ well-being first, which we really appreciate. We also saw seals, sea lions, eagles and their nest. Just a great day out on the water. DH is taking appropriate Covid cautions, and everyone on the boat was being careful and respectful.

We had such a wonderful afternoon of chasing after 2 teenage Orca brothers who were swimming in and out of the waters between San Juan Island and Vancouver Island. Our boat captain was amazing at taking us directly to where they were and our guide was such an energetic, knowledgeable, and effective navigator. She knew where to look for the Orcas and was even able to anticipate where they might go next so that we were the only boat able to follow the 2 whales as they wove through the islands heading north. We even got to see a very rare "beach" where one of the Orcas jumped out of the water and turned toward us so that many of us got great pictures of more than just the fin and top of the body. None of the other boats were with us when that happened. Congrats and thanks to the Deer Harbor team for a fantastic afternoon of whale watching!

The Professionalism, Knowledge, and Spirit of Joy in the captain and naturalist contributed to a quick set venture with many rememberable sites of life in the Salish Sea. The vessel, Squito, and its captain were beautifully cared for with family pride. Very satisfied experience!

We hosted a sunset cruise for 30 people after our elopement weekend on Orcas Island and had the best time! We brought our own food and drinks and enjoyed the sea and the scenery. The captain and crew mates were all wonderful and they even accommodated us on a boat ride 2 hours earlier than we had scheduled due to incoming weather. An absolutely wonderful experience!

The whale watching trip was a great afternoon. We saw a grey whale, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, deer, sheep, cormorants, and learned a ton about the San Juan’s. Nate the captain did a great job getting us close to the wildlife and Trey the naturalist knew everything about the wildlife and had a great sense of humor to keep us all laughing. I would highly recommend this trip.

We met our naturalist , Natalie and Captain Nate at the Deer Harbor Charter Dock. Our trip's purpose was to spot Orca Whales on their Orcas Spotting Vessel. Natalie continued to explain to participants during the trip in a very knowledgeable communicative fashion. Participants ranged in age from very young to very old (me). She explained Orca whale background, mannerisms, characteristics in very human terms. I visualize Orcas as our neighbors in the amazing Salish Sea. Nate, the skipper introduced himself just before castoff, explained where we were navigating ,where the Orcas were being spotted. The Orcas could be as far as 100 miles so we would be underway for a while before spotting. Nate navigated to the Orcas. For the next hour we viewed them as they swam northward in a threesome formation moving at a very healthy pace. As Natalie pointed out their prey and next meal moves even faster!!

Getting out on the water was what I wanted most, with anything else being icing on the cake. However, the entire 3 hours was among the most enjoyable times of my life. I was blown away by the knowledge our guide and captain had, and had no idea we would travel so far. Even though we didn't encounter any Orcas, we saw lots of other wildlife, so in my opinion the entire trip was well worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Booked a whale watching tour and it was AMAZING! We saw nine different whales, who breached the surface over and over again. The ride out was rough, but well worth it. There were highly unusual tides that day, which the naturalist on board said most likely explained why the Orcas had come into our area and stayed. Also saw porpoises, seals, a bald eagle with it's nest and just beautiful water. The suggestion to wear layers is the truth. It was quite warm, but the open water is much cooler and the boat travels at a fair clip once out of the harbor. Well worth the time and money!

My sister and I had an amazing afternoon on Orcas thanks to Deer Harbor Charters and Trey and Nate. We were lucky enough to not only see orca and lots of other wildlife including sea lions and bald eagles but also to learn so much about them and their breathtaking environment.
Highly recommend booking a trip, you won’t regret it and make sure to ask Trey to see the photo that cannot be unseen, it’s worth it!

p.s We couldn’t find Jack, maybe we’ll see him in London…

Great trip! We were fortunate to see two of the transient orca pods out feeding and frolicking.

Trey, the naturalist, was informative & funny; Bob, the captain, was friendly and got us safely to view the orcas and back to Roserio.

I appreciated the smaller number of people on this tour there wasn’t a bad seat for viewing the orcas so where you sat was not an issue.

Plus Trey shared some of his photos that
he took on our trip with a much better camera & lens than my cell phone!
