Amazing place!
Jun 2021
Went there to take photos. This place will blow you away with its beauty. The road up to the top is a bit narrow and a scary drive for some (cliffs and no guardrails). Totally worth it!

Walk at least part of the way!
May 2021
There is a road all the way to the top, but there are also plenty of places on the way up to park. It’s a pleasant walk, the road goes all the way around the butte. So that way you have a leisurely 360-degree view. When you get to the top you’ll have a great view, so drive up and look from there if you’re tight on time. But if possible take the time and take a stroll. Don’t park at the bottom though - that length would be a little tedious.

Incredible View
Apr 2021
What an amazing view, the road is passible if someone is going down as your going up. I'm afraid of height's was thinking about this on the way up. The view was amazing a little windy but breath taking. Rumor has it there use to be a restaurant up there back in the day.

Before you go up the hill there is a place to pay and park and use the facilities. Also a dog area :) Picnic tables as well for a picnic.

Incredible vistas at the top
Nov 2020
Well worth driving in about 5-6 miles to head up the paved narrow road (without guardrails!) that winds up to the top. But the views are worth it.

Beautiful endless views
Aug 2020 • Family
Driving up it doesn't seem like anything exciting, but when you get to the top and see those 360degree views its beautiful. There is one bathroom at the top, a bench to sit on to enjoy the breeze and the scenery. It wasn't anything exciting for my 9 yr old, but my boyfriend and I were amazed at the endless views of wheat and rolling hills. Im definitely making a trip back during sunset.

A lovely view of the rolling terrain of the Palouse!
Jul 2020
My wife and I stopped here on the way home from a trip to Spokane. I'd seen photographs of the Palouse, but seeing it for real was incredible. The varieties of greens and golds and browns was mesmerising.

We spent an hour just taking pictures and admiring the landscape.

Palouse overview
Jul 2020
Steptoe Butte State Park provides a good view out over the Palouse region of eastern Washington. The road is in terrible repair, watch out you don't damage your vehicle.
It was lovely to see the Palouse from above and watch the sunset.

WOW
May 2020
Traveled to the top of the butte for a fantastic view of the Palouse. The day I went a thunder storm rolled across the countryside. It was a really cool thing to watch. Took a lot of pictures. When I return I’ll check the weather for sun because the view would be amazing on a clear day. Someone suggested I go about an hour before sunset to get the best light for photos.

Scenic drive through Palouse
Jul 2019
I loved revisiting the extraordinary countryside of my early childhood ... the Palouse mountains surrounding Colfax, Washington this past summer. The roads were excellent and only lightly traveled, making our daytime trips easy for sight-seeing. I do have some precautions: GPS does not work once outside the city limits of whatever communities are along the road. The roads are two-lane and have very narrow shoulders. Photography is best done as a passenger from a moving car; otherwise, there are very few places to stop a car and get out. We had a rental SUV and the curving, hilly terrain made me nervous about the vehicles stability. For people unfamiliar with the roads, driving during daylight would be my recommendation.
