We were on a three week road trip in the Pacific Northwest. It was a foggy, rainy Sunday and the sunlight dependent activities we had planned weren't going to work. We checked out TripAdvisor and very high on the list of things to do in Bellingham was this eccentric park called "Big Rock Garden." Having no expectations, we wove our way there. Ours was the only car in the parking lot. We had the whole place to ourselves! Pushing open the ornate wooden gate, we entered an absolutely rhapsodic blend of nature + art. Being in no hurry, we meandered on every path of this relatively small space that somehow was full of amazing works of sculptural art. "Meandered" is the operational word, for moving any faster might have caused us to miss out pieces of art hidden in the recesses. Being alone, and with the rain increasing, we sat alone under the beautiful gazebo and just let the Northwest sink in. Truly, we agreed that this was one of the top tree experiences we had on this trip.

Loved this stroll through a lovely garden under towering evergreens, with beautiful sculptures artfully placed here and there. We want to return when the rhododendrons are blooming!

This little-known garden is just at the north end of Lake Whatcom and well-worth a stroll through. The site has many local outdoor works of art such as sculptures, pavilions, and so on, and some of them are quite good. If you are pressed for time, however, skip this and go right to Artists' Point, other areas near Mt. Baker, or other top ten locales in this northwest corner of Washington State. Travel safely!

This place I would visit different times of the year because of the gardens. The shrubs are outstanding but the rocks are everywhere and are magnificent
This place is good for walkers and handicapped vehicles. As you can see fromthe pictures the path is big enough

The garden is such a peaceful and lovely spot; definitely worth a visit each season as it changes dramatically throughout the course of a year. My only disappointment is that dogs are restricted from entry. I believe responsible pet owners would visit this garden much more often if their dogs on a leash could accompany them.

This is a gorgeous park. When we drove in from the road, it looks like you're driving down somebody's back alley, but it's fine, and there's a good amount of parking. The place is well signed, so you can find out who did the art you're interested in. Or you can just stroll, and take in all the beauty, man-made and natural. The art ranges from the traditional to the contemporary / modern, so there's something for everybody. It seems like they have a number of events here, so if you're visiting, and are an art-buff, check out their schedule. REALLY worth a visit! They don't allow pets inside, so you'll have leave Fluffy behind...

Ok, so maybe not hidden, but definitely an out of the way gem. This park is located in a residential area off of Alabama, close to the Silver Beach area of Lake Whatcom.

Once you walk thru the wooden gate, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the beauty and treasures in this small forest. There are dozens of sculptures scattered throughout the park along winding pathways. This truly is a peaceful and lovely location that you will find charming and probably thought provoking.

Beautiful sculpture/art garden hidden away in the forest. Discovered it by accident as my wife and I were taking a walk in a new trail system out by Silver Beach. We had the whole garden to ourselves (10-11am on a Sunday). I can't wait to take my parents and friends of ours back to see it! No pictures as we both left our phones in the car.
