Local gem on the island
Feb 2020
This museum is a local gem. Situated not too far from the ferry dock on Bainbridge island (perhaps 5 min if you are a slow walker like me), it is a must-see. It may not have classical pieces but is full of eclectic art from local artists and pride. The docents are very friendly, giving out details and revealing interesting information that adds to the background of the art pieces. It's worth checking out this attraction before you venture further into town. Besides, no one would turn down free admission, right?

Very worthwhile art experience, gifts, and food

This jewel of a museum curates an impressive selection of work in all media by PNW artists and it’s free of charge! Exhibited works change frequently, so there’s always a reason to stop in. It’s not a huge place; a pleasant stroll through could take as little as 30-45 minutes, though there is plenty to immerse yourself in for a longer visit, including the amazing art book room upstairs. We love the gift shop beneath/beside the open stairs to the second floor, which has a nice variety of clever, cozy, and/or beautiful things for all ages. And the cafe in back (BIMA Bistro) on the main floor is a nice quiet place to enjoy a sit down for soups, tarts, hot sandwiches, salads, drinks, and the like. During the summer there are outdoor tables. Finally, they often do hands-on programs, though for young kids you might also want to check out the independent KiddiMu located in a separate building behind BIMA.

A treasure!

This is a fine small museum with new exhibits regularly. Worth a visit at least monthly! Very convenient to the ferry for walk-offs.

Bainbridge day trip with family visiting from out of town

Small, but something for everyone to do or look at. Exhibit for kids on the children's book illustrator and writer was well loved.

Jazz concert was nice.

Limited Viewing Due to Opening Night Setup
Oct 2019 • Solo
I visited the museum on the afternoon prior to an opening night exhibit, so most galleries were closed. However, I was told that three small galleries could be visited. While limited in size, the content of these exhibits were quite surprising and unique. Of note was the Carol Milne exhibit on knitted glass. These works are incredible and to think how quickly they must be crafted makes them all the more impressive. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Bright, modern building with cafe attached. Free admission.

fantastic place for a short visit if you've got some time to kill before your ferry
Jun 2019
located within a short walk from the ferry, i highly recommend getting to the ferry 45 min. earlier and pay a visit to this art museum. lovely balcony garden on the second floor. museum houses a small but interesting collection of local artifacts and art. a wonderful place to peruse, stroll, and relax on a typical dreary pensive northwest day. and don't forget to buy a souvenir from the museum's well-stocked gift store - it supports the museum and makes a meaningful purchase!

Hats off to everybody involved with this museum

Housed in a good looking modern building, the museum certainly enhances the quality of life on the island (together with the large bookshop on the main street). It features mainly local and regional artists and presents them well.
The staff - I think they are volunteers - is knowledgeable and pleasant. And admission is even free!

Nicely done!
Sep 2019 • Friends
One of the best of its class of smaller museums. Kudos to the planners, managers and staff. Exhibits are well presented with docents available to enhance your visit. Artists are sometimes on site to share their artistic method/mission. Very cool. Small enough to tour in under an hour, or linger and spend an hour or two. Gift shop and bistro on site. Free admission and on site parking. What’s not to like? Nicely done!
